1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E RENNtech 6.0L

This 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E was modified by RENNtech to their E60 specification in 1996. It was registered with three owners in North Carolina, Texas, and Minnesota before it was acquired by the seller on BaT in August 2020. A subsequent 18-month cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment was completed in May 2022 by Blue Ridge Mercedes of Lilburn, Georgia. The $59,000 project included repainting the body, refreshing the interior, overhauling the suspension and steering, and servicing the 6.0-liter M119 V8. The car features a modified four-speed automatic transmission, a limited-slip differential, an ASR-defeat switch, a three-piece ducktail spoiler, self-leveling rear suspension, 18″ AMG Monoblock wheels, heated front seats, an Alcantara headliner, and a custom sound system with JL Audio subwoofers and an Alpine head unit. This 500E RENNtech shows 73k miles and is now offered with documentation binders, service records from current ownership, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Tennessee title in the seller’s name.

The 500E was assembled at Porsche’s Rössle-Bau factory in Zuffenhausen, Germany, where this example was finished in Black Pearl Metallic (199). The body was disassembled, stripped, primed, and refinished with PPG products during the refurbishment, and paintless dent repairs were completed. A three-piece ducktail spoiler was also installed, and the headlight doors and backings were replaced along with the rear window before ceramic tint was applied to the glass. Paint correction work with ceramic coating finished the process.

AMG Monoblock 18″ wheels were refurbished and then wrapped in 245/40 front and 265/35 rear Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S tires. Alcon brake calipers and 13″ rotors are noted, and RENNtech added functionality to disable the vehicle’s factory Automatic Slip Control (ASR). The following steering and suspension components were replaced or installed by Blue Ridge Mercedes:

Power steering lines & rebuilt tandem pump
Steering damper, center link, idler arm bushing, & tie rod ends
AMG E60-spec lowering springs & Bilstein B8 front shocks
Front strut mounts, bellows, & bump stops
AMG/RENNtech sway bar bushings
Front & rear lower control arms
Left-rear wheel bearing kit
Rear subframe bushings
Rear sway bar links & adjustable rear caster links
Rear self-leveling suspension rams

The heated and power-adjustable front seats are upholstered in black leather, and the cabin has automatic climate control, a power sunroof, and a power-adjustable steering column. An Alcantara headliner was fitted, the B-pillars were recovered, the center console was repaired, wood trim pieces were reconditioned, and sound-system wiring was serviced before replacement speakers, JL Audio subwoofers, and an Alpine head unit were installed.

The four-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel frames instruments that were swapped into a replacement binnacle during the project, which also included installing a factory-specification fire extinguisher in the driver’s footwell. The six-digit odometer shows 73k miles, approximately 1k of which were added by the seller.

The M119 V8 was increased to 6.0-liter displacement in 1996 by RENNtech, which rated their powerplant at 412 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque when new. A RENNtech exhaust system is also fitted. The upper and lower wiring harnesses were replaced in 2015, and the RENNtech carbon-fiber airbox was ceramic-coated during current ownership. Blue Ridge Mercedes also repaired threads on the engine block drain plug and replaced or installed the following items:

• Front main seal
• Valve cover gaskets
• Crankcase breather hoses
• Metal camshaft oiler tubes
• Variable valve-timing actuator seals
• Water pump & thermostat
• Remanufactured viscous fan clutch
• Fuel pumps, hoses, & filter
• Distributor caps & rotors, ignition coils, wires, & spark plugs
• Engine & transmission mounts
• Oil level & pressure senders
• Accessory drive belt & tensioner

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a modified four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Two documentation binders accompany the car along with the 2022 Blue Ridge Mercedes service record and 2023 correspondence with RENNtech shown at the end of the gallery below. The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in North Carolina, Texas, Minnesota, and Tennessee.

I’m not going to lie, that was a bit underwhelming! I assumed reserve wouldn’t be met under $100k, I also doubt reserve was any higher than that given BaT’s attitude towards reserve. They have a very dealership-like approach to such pricing.

For absolutely no specific reason at all… I’m curious what the seller would take right now.

I am relocating out of state and am likely going to rent for a year. I would prefer to not have a 3 car garage be a requirement of the rental and don’t want to pay to garage the car.

I am interested in selling but this is not a fire sale. I don’t need to sell.

Frankly, I don’t want to sell but I had zero kids when I bought this car, one when I got it back after 18 months at Blue Ridge and now have two kids. I never drive it and my priorities have shifted.

Yeah, but it's difficult / expensive to build a sub enclosure that integrates seamlessly, and/or allows access to the spare tire. Nobody looks in the trunk, I could live with that sub if it sounds good! JL makes nice stuff, at least it wasn't a budget-brand.

I'm pretty sure that's a cutout where the First Aid kit used to be, which is apparently so stealthy no one else noticed it. If so, I'm sure we could all live with that sub the way it would sound wired to those amps in the sub rack.
