Re: FS: 1992 500E, Signal Red / Cream-Beige, 100kmi (San Fernando Valley, CA)

Anyone get a VIN, or have a CarFax account to run the plate (CA 5EJY047)?

It looks closer to Garnet/Almandine Red than Signal Red, plus there were no Signal Red cars imported to USA in 1992. However, there was a 1993 Signal Red car (chassis #B978126) which seems to match the miles, location, and approximate year parked - based on an old AutoCheck though. Just guessing at the moment...

EDIT - wrong car, the one mentioned above has a clean title, ooops. Car for sale is salvage title.

Based on your plate number, I am getting WDBEA36E2PB976141 which is for a 1993 500E not the 1992 as posted??

Re: FS: 1993 500E, Signal Red / Cream-Beige, ~150kmi, salvage title (San Fernando Valley, CA)

Manny, thank you! That VIN makes more sense. Old AutoCheck attached from late 2013. Yes, it is a 1993, not a 1992.

Note that in addition to a salvage title, it also has a pretty blatant odometer roll back. Actual miles are probably around 150k.

Not sure if the guy thinks he's sitting on a gold mine, but with that history & current condition, I doubt there will be interest much over the $5k he already turned down. Then again, the wrecked Pearl Gray car in VA is bid up to $10k with a salvage title (but fewer miles, and no odometer discrepancy).

I'll bet he'll do pretty well on the sale of this car despite its shady past. It does look great.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, Signal Red / Cream-Beige, ~150kmi, salvage title, $9k (Glendale, CA)

This car was sitting in a yard in Burbank for the past few years. I saw it everyday on my way to work. I even had a chance to stop by one day and talk to the owner about a year ago and saw the car in person up close. The condition was not great, it wouldn't start, salvage, you name it. , been sitting under the sun for some time, but it looks like a nice detail and polish has brought it back, haha. Anyways, I had an offer turned down that time. The car wasn't in the market at that time. Interesting to see how much it will sell for.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, Signal Red / Cream-Beige, ~150kmi, salvage title, $9k (Glendale, CA)

eBay auction ended. High bid of $8,700, 23 bids, reserve not met.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, Signal Red / Cream-Beige, ~150kmi, salvage title, $9k (Glendale, CA)

Odd he was asking $9k and he didnt sell at $8700??

I found that odd as well. If they were asking $9k, then why not set the reserve at $8k or even $8.5. He hasn't had the car but a few weeks. Make a few bucks fast and walk away. That car is going to be a hard sell. Odometer rollback, salvage title, still rough paint (notice there are no shots of the top surfaces of the car), etc. It would be a great candidate to mod the crap out of and have a blast in it.

Re: FS: 1993 500E, Signal Red / Cream-Beige, ~150kmi, salvage title, $9k (Glendale, CA)

What % does e-Bay take? 10 or 20%? Maybe he is just testing the waters.

Kip has a good point about there being zero photos of the hood, roof, and trunk lid after the detail job. I wonder if potential buyers get excited from the photos and then walk away when they see it in person.

Mercedes Benz 500E w124 Rarity E500

41540 Germany North Rhine-Westphalia - Dormagen

For sale is a Daimler Benz w124 500E built by Porsche at a time in a total number of 10479stk.Of which only 20 have been delivered in Signalrot.A rarity as an asset. The 500E was bought by us in the United States because it will be in a documentation of a reality show. The condition was in a bad condition when it was bought, but the work started for us. Of course every step is also documented. It was first the front and rear axle completely overhauled, then what also a disease with these vehicles. Is the complete electronics including cables ect. After the technology was completely overhauled which included the gear and many other wear parts, he got a fresh lacquer, which cost us 4500 €. It was completely disassembled and expertly varnished and assembled.Even the rear disc was dismantled for a perfect paint finish. The 500 has then received a full acceptance at the Tüv Rheinland and a daily approval. This allows the buyer to easily allow itWithout any flaws, he can now make the German roads unsafe ...For the documentation to be completed, the W124 MUST also be sold in front of the camera. This is also a condition to buy the bike.US is obviously aware that we sell the car under the market price and this car has cost us much more than is offered here, this vehicle and similar models will soon become a real rarity, and thus it is an investment!

Anyone have a CarFax account who can look up WDBEA36E2PB976141 and see if CarFax also indicates a rollback?

I never thought they would mention odometer rollback and salvage title from another continent

With the "Lazarus" nature of this one and the "convenient non-mention of rollback" on German-ebay, it makes you wonder if Japanese E500E imports to the West have a similar checkered past.

Thanks, Manny! I was hoping CarFax would have more records prior to 1998. Racking up 120kmi in 4-5 years is a lot, it would be nice to get additional confirmation of the odometer during the early years. The VMI from a dealer may have more details, but it's looking more likely that it's a hefty rollback.

Terrifying thought given the frequency with which I see Japanese market cars here that make me think "lord I want that". They never seem to have paperwork either. Terrifying also because my Integrale is a Japanese import.

Now that you mention it, I discovered that a 1973 Carrera RS we got from Japan ended up having a dashboard from a later car (had the vents on the ends of the dash near the door panel as in 1974+ but they were trimmed over so you could only see them from under/behind the dash), and upon closer inspection, the front half of the car had been replaced.

Vehicle has been moved to its original state as it came from ... Porsche Mfg
Um, no. It is not in the original state as delivered by Porsche. It would have had USA 500E headlights+wipers, and amber turn signals. Instead the car has Euro lights (the wrong Euro lights!), USA facelift turn signals, and no wipers. Further, they are still claiming it has 170kkm (107kmi) which is very, very suspect based on the AutoCheck and CarFax reports. Also incorrect is the claim of only 20 cars worldwide in Signal Red... actual number is 27 worldwide (of which 17 were imported to USA, in 1993 USA model year only).

:tumble:
