Attacked non-working 1994 E280T SLS.

Removed spheres and various pipework. Fluid was foam, no wonder it wasn’t working.

One sphere was clearly knackered as a screw driver would enter nearly to the top of the sphere. The other one seemed much the same as the new ones.

Replaced spheres, thightened everything up and started the engine. Gradually it started working but we’d run out of fluid after several top-ups.

Fluid level just above min.

Went for a drive with 140 Kg of cement at the very back. Hit some speed bumps. It’s working.

Got back and fluid level just below min. Bit relunctant to drive with insufficient fluid.

Top-up scheduled for this week after my son can get to MB in Angouleme.

We worked from about 9 to nearly 4. A good day’s work.

My son reports that the rear end is holding up well the morning after.

PS: All yesterday’s clothes now on long wash to remove hydraulic fluid!

Ran my hand through my hair last night. Very shiny. Straight to the shower!

A question re adjusting the level control rod.

Once we established that the thing was rising and falling with the engine running, we than had to adjust the rod. We didn't know how.

So we set the lever on the valve so that the front and back were at the same level. Then we adjusted the rod to fit.

Does that sound right?

It seems to work.

Any advice gratefully received.

Best to all.

You got it in the rough ballpark, but you should follow the FSM procedure at the link below:
