Seems a nice, well maintained Limited, recent work done to the tune of (more than) € 20K by Mechatronik. Interesting to see some (non-stock) AMG optics in the interior (and below bumpers?). Incorrectly advertized as "1 of 500". In german language but I guess most of it will be clear to all of you (if not, I can translate)

The Mercedes-Benz E500 Limited​

The Mercedes-Benz E 500 Limited model was only produced 500 900+ times in 1994 - and that alone makes it a special classic. The vehicle was unique when it was launched - and it still is today. The Mercedes-Benz E 500 of the W124 series is probably rather inconspicuous as a sedan for most people, but fans quickly recognize the V8 engine by the wide flared fenders compared to the standard version. The five-liter V8 was developed and produced together with Porsche, which also helped with the production of the 500 E and the E500. While Mercedes-Benz makes the body, the chassis is manufactured at Porsche in Zuffenhausen. The flares and the necessary additional struts were installed at Porsche before the vehicle was sent back to Sindelfingen for painting. Final assembly then took place again at Porsche, while quality control was again carried out at Mercedes. Today, such a process would probably not only be too time-consuming, but also too expensive. The production of one model took 18 days. The special model E 500 Limited was fitted with two-tone leather. The cockpit itself features the familiar W 124 equipment, apart from the speedometer, which goes up to 260 km/h. Shifting is done via a four-speed automatic transmission, and the V8 accelerates the 1.8-ton car to 100 km/h in just 6.1 seconds. It was impressive to see how the E 500 with 320 hp and 470 Nm of torque can be used on the road. A four-stroke petrol engine (M119 E 50 / 119.974) with 4,973 cm³ was used here, and the drive was exclusively via the rear axle. The empty weight of the E 500 was 1,739 kg, and the permissible total weight was 2,180 kg. The new price of the special model was just under 149,000 DM (cf. E 500 145,590 DM). Production of the W 124 ended after the introduction of its successor, the W 210, between June and August 1995, depending on the engine, and that of the E 500 in April 1995. A total of 2,213,167 sedans and 2,342 sedans with a long wheelbase and 6,398 chassis for special bodies were produced from the 124 series itself in 11 years of production. A total of 10,479 units of the E 500 / 500E and the higher-performance E 60 AMG variant were produced.​

Full AMG Gen2 body kit - front & rear bumpers plus side skirts. Interior leather looks quite faded but otherwise not bad. Not enough photos, would like to see a full instrument cluster view, I bet there's an EXH TEMP indicator... since there's what appears to be a Japanese-language Mobil decal in the driver door jamb.

I think you are right. It has a reddish tinge in the photos but might be faded gray. Really would be helpful if the VIN was listed.

This is black/gray (288) interior. There are 11 of these cars with the exact same set of SA codes therefore hard to determine the VIN of this particular car but it's one of them. All of them have black/gray interior.

I wonder which possible VIN's shows up if you add SA-code 260 (elimination of type on trunk lid) and/or 341 (additional blinker lights), both not mentioned by Mechatronik in their add but visible on the pics.

The result might still not lead us fool proof to its VIN, however, as it's unclear whether this car got a repaint or not; if it did, they might not have bothered to stick the E 500 sign back on afterwards. But putting on the additional blinker lights (not standard on German/Swiss delivered cars) when these weren't there in the first place is more unlikely IMHO...

I was seriously interested in this car. Bought another one in the end. There is a story to this car and I also know the vin number. I’m just not sure if it is appropriate and useful to post here.

No harm will be done if the car’s vin is posted here. I’ve been on this forum for since 2009 and have never seen a problem with a posted VIN.

BTW, I hope you purchased an E500E.

Thanks! I'll update the original post. That car was originally delivered to Russia, but may have gone to Japan.
