AFAIK, you can't just move the spring to the other side. You need a different valve, which is not available separately. And, I'm not certain the FGS valve will fit into a SGS housing.
FGS and SGS VB's use different valves, with the spring located in opposite positions. The picture is showing the SGS setup with a note that FGS is different.
Satish is correct, if you remove the spring you do get FGS, but the side effects are intolerable. One of my cars was delivered with this modification and it was awful. Had to replace the VB to fix it.
If you want a FGS VB, I think samiam44 still has a couple for sale.
Are FGS VBs in short supply amongst the well-connected?
I have one from a recently acquired '94 420 parts car, but it still has the rest of the car around it...
Does the market need another FGS VB looking for a new home?

I haven't checked in a while. Search the classifieds and see how many are out there, unsold. IMO, a unit that has been tested (meaning, you drove the car and confirmed all upshifts / downshifts are normal) is worth a bit more.
That said, I haven't seen any "Wanted" listings for FGS VB's. Which is odd, considering what a great upgrade it is.
Such a useful and simple swap in when one is doing a fluid and filter change. After a few turns of the adjustment, good to go. Or, just shift manually which is never a bad idea anyway which is what I do on the C126 since it doesn't have the FGS valve body.
Yeah he’s known pretty well around these circles. Like Klink, Jono and others, a bit legendary. I’ve known him for about 20 years. He’s one of the reasons I have a 500E, although he wouldn’t sell me his when I was looking. But I’ve been happy with my journey, and he has helped a bit.
One of the things I’ve been wondering here, is whether an E5E with FGS can easily retrofit the W/S/E shift mechanism.
maw, it's just an E/S switch for the W124. All North American models come fixed in the "Sport" setting. The switch allows choosing an "Economy" setting with LOWER shift points. Sure, it can be retrofitted, but I doubt anyone would want it. Alternately, the factory switch can be used to control an electronic FGS setup to switch back & forth between FGS and SGS.
I think the W210 started with the W/S switch (Winter/Summer) which not only changes between FGS and SGS on the electronic 5-speed 722.6 tranny, it also changes the reverse gear ratio!
Thanks, GSXR. I now recall, Satish did this on his, but he didn’t have FGS. It looks like either one or the other makes sense, but not both. My car never sees winter, so FGS and foot throttling works just fine.
