Any quality aftermarket cooler that fits in the space available will be fine. RENNtech used small square-ish coolers ahead of one of the front tires with AN stainless braided hoses. There was a factory cooler available for most 124 (except the 036) in this location, intended for towing... but it's been NLA for many years.
Note that an auxiliary cooler would generally be used in series with the cooler integrated into the radiator.
