Hello E500E friends,

Thoughts and opinions. Does a clean solid 722.6 5 speed upgrade help or hurt the value of clean E500E ?

thank you for your input.

It depends:

If the upgrade was done well and the programming is such that the shift behavior is equal or better than a factory 722.6 behind an M119, it could help the value, or at least not hurt it.

Anything other than the above, could potentially hurt value... IMO.

:seesaw:

I think it'd hurt tbh. Unless it's extremely well done....most people want 124.036 original. If it's a manual conversion or maybe some wizardry with a modern automatic, maybe, but the 722.6 is pretty marginal and you lose some support of the main community.

good insight. so perhaps a clean 722.9 7g tronic speed swap would be more interesting.

722.6 5 speed with new custom TCU flashes has come a long way to make this 5 speed really a good performer.

A friend put a 722.6 behind a 300TD with an OM603 and it completely transformed the car. I expect that it would do the same to a 500E as my R129 M118 / SL500 is a delight to drive.
it seems the 722.6 has come a long way with modern TCU software tweaks and you can even install paddle shifters on the steering wheel. awesome stuff.

I would've loved to do a 722.6 upgrade, so last year and for fun I requested a well known shop in Germany, all parts (used transmission) & labor included. The price was stupidly cosmic IMHO. Someone think they perform rocket science worth diamonds.
