8.5" wide rear wheel

I'm in the market for wheels and wanted to know if any owners here regret running an 8.5" rear wheel? Do you ever get wider wheel envy lol?

What width tire do most people like on a 8.5" wide wheel?

I am currently running 9.5J in a back that are just perfect with the proper offset.

The max people have on 036 (at least what I know) is 11.5J (stance look).

8.5 is just a normal width for E500E. Tires would be 255/35/19 ? depends on radius . If you have 18 with 8.5j then you might want to run something like 255/40/18.

Roma

Thanks Roma for your feedback. Any other owners with opinions? I don't want to regret not going with a wider wheel!

Staggered setups (wider rear) are primarily for aesthetics. If you like the look, go staggered. As Klink will point out, for example here, the ideal functionality will come with sticking reasonably close to factory fitments for width/offset.

The easy solution is to have multiple sets of wheels. (Don't ask how many sets I have. Please. Don't.)

Forgot to answer the other question - tire size.

For 17x8.5, use 245-45-17.

For 18x8.5, use 245-40-18. (255-40-18 is also an option.)

For staggered setups, be VERY careful with tire selection, make sure front & rear diameter/circumference are as close to identical as possible More than 1% deviation will cause problems with ASR, ABS, and cruise control.

Makes me wonder how many sets Kent has...

To give you some perspective I've attached a picture of my 18" staggered OZ wheel set. They followed the recommendation of many members here in prior threads, the fronts are 8.5" wide and 245/40-18 tires are mounted. The rears are 9.5" wide and 275/35-18 tires are mounted. I forget what the precise front and back ET's are, but I'm satisfied with how they fill the wheel wells so no spacers are used. The suspension is stock and I've not altered the fenders in any way. There is no rubbing of any kind. Like many (most?) here, I have other tire sets and when I want a less aggressive (better riding) set, I use a straight set of EVO II's, 8.25" all around, with 245/45-17 tires.

I am running 9,5 x 19 ET 34 with 255/35/19 all around, got to have 10 mm spacers in front to avoid inner rim rubbing against schock.
