94 e500 catalytic converter

I am looking into new catalytic converters for my 94 e500. I have found some reasonably priced magnaflow units on ebay, that say they are direct fit. Are all exhaust on m119 w124's the same (92-94) for U.S. Market? Do you think the magnaflow will also sound a bit sportier? I am open to suggestions as well, thanks!

Chris

I did full Magnaflow from the downpipes, including converters. Almost three years later, I've been pleased. On my profile, you can see a picture or two of what I did. I had a video clip somewhere, which never does the sound justice, but I'll try to dig it out anyway.

Cheers,

There are some differences between the exhaust systems on the 5L versus 4.2L cars. I can't tell you chapter and verse what the differences are right now, but they are different. I'd be willing to bet that there is someone here with photos ready to post...

Cats are the same. The resonator and muffler are slightly different and yes, there are pics on that W124performance website I keep hearing about. :jono:

Should this work direct fit without chopping my stock exhaust up?
I don't believe those will fit without cutting up at least one stock pipe... however, without photos of the actual parts, I can't say for sure. I don't like it when companies post "drawings" of their parts, which is sure what that looks like.

The ideal plug & play item will be OE MB catalysts, new or used. Are you 100% certain yours are bad? How exactly were they diagnosed? In general I'd avoid aftermarket except as a last resortm due to cost (new) or availability (used).
