• Hi Guest !

    Welcome to the 500Eboard forum.

Since its founding in late 2008, 500Eboard has become the leading resource on the Internet for all things related to the Mercedes-Benz 500E and E500. In recent years, we have also expanded to include the 400E and E420 models, which are directly related to the 500E/E500.

We invite you to browse and take advantage of the information and resources here on the site. If you find helpful information, please register for full membership, and you'll find even more resources available. Feel free to ask questions, and make liberal use of the "Search" function to find answers.

We hope you will become an active contributor to the community!

    Sincerely,
    500Eboard Management

A QUESTION FOR THE ADMINISTRATORS !

I'm interested to know how one's status in the profile box (just above the Avatar), is determined?

If I recall correctly, I started (possibly back in 2015?) as a "Junior Member", then at some point (I think maybe after 12 months), I was upgraded to "Senior Member".

I now see I've become an E500E Guru! I'm not quite sure how that happened! If you google "guru", the definition of a guru is - a " spiritual leader", plus "influential", "expert", "professional", "mentor", and (amongst other attributes), a "leading light"!

I certainly don't fit the "spiritual leader" category - far from it(!) - neither would I describe myself as an "expert" or a "mentor" on E500E's. I leave that accolade to those much worthier than me, i.e. GSXR, Gerryvz, and Klink - to mention just a few of those on the board to whom we are all eternally indebted!

Nice though it is to have one's status "upgraded", (and I realise there is a light-hearted element to all this), I would hate for someone to take my advice on an E500E matter, assuming it to be totally dependable!

The forum automatically "promotes" your title according to the number of posts you have. You also have the option to set your own title in your profile setup. This seems to be fairly "borked" at the moment, so if there is a title that you want me to change your title to, let me know and I'll be happy to do it. Some folks don't mind the "stock" title, others like to set their own.

And still others, I like to set myself. Like Jono's "Bitter Mechanic" and gsxr's "E500E Boffin" titles........

Just a note on this, given the new forum. There is a new promotion system for the new forum, and we will be creating suitable categories for folks' names.

People will still have the ability to give themselves a custom title, and anyone on the old forum with a custom title had it carried over onto this forum. But we will have a new set of "standard" titles for members in the future. This is not a high priority at the present time, to be honest.

Cheers,
Gerry

Another Q for admins: Why the site is named in portal pictures as "The unoffical 500E / E500 internet resource" with strikethrough word? Could this be simply "The 500E / E500 internet resource"?

Efraim,

Now this is the type of question that I enjoy answering! It has never been asked in 10+ years, and has a never-told back-story behind it.

Back about April and May of 2008, when I was getting ready to create this forum and bring it on-line, I had the dilemma of creating a banner image late one night. Of course we very well knew of the single, static banner image from the predecessor 500Ecstasy forum, which is below:

80287

I knew that I wanted something more inviting, less creepy, and more representative of the vision that I had for the new forum. So I created this logo on May 30, 2008 (the file is still date-stamped that day, at 3:59 AM Pacific Time):

80288

As you see, there is no strikethrough.

But as I thought about things, and played around with logo variants, I liked the "Unofficial" title, but I wanted the site to be considered more than unofficial. Yet, it wasn't necessarily "Official" either -- official by whose standards? MB's? I didn't think so.

So to create a little bit of mystique I decided to keep the word "Unofficial" but to give it a strikethrough. So it gave it more cachet (in my opinion) than being unofficial and unauthorized, but not quite saying it is "Official" in a legal sense of recognition.

I also toyed with just leaving it as "The 500E / E500 Internet Resource" -- short and sweet. But I wanted something more intriguing and with a bit more pizzazz. So, I settled on the strikethrough-unofficial phrase. It's not unofficial, but it's not official either.

Cheers,
Gerry

Thanks for the story. Interesing to know it, since the unoffical picked me up already during my the first visit about 10 years ago. So your careful banner planing did influence to me. (y)
