Febi, Meyle and ACM all have “Germany” in the dba corporate names.
This is because these firms are HEADQUARTERED in Germany (Febi = Ferdinand Bilstein; Meyle = Wulf Gaertner; ACM = ???).
But having “Germany” in your company name while making products in China is misleading, and designed to sucker people into believing that the products are German made. Which most of the time they ARE NOT.
This has been discussed several times over the years here on the forum — the disingenuous nature of this practice. And the fact that more than a few people have been lulled into a false sense of thinking that these products are quality when they are not.
FEBI also get some positive props because of the “Bilstein” in the name, which people assume is the same as the quality maker of suspension products.
But it is not, and the companies are not related at all. Actually they were related, but it was many decades ago and there is zero relationship or anything in common for many many years. Yet Febi gets some unearned halo effect from the suspension company.
Sometimes I don’t feel that people take the Parts Manufacturer Quality Listings on this site seriously enough. And don’t pay attention to the games that some of these manufacturers play. And they continue to buy crap parts and support these companies.
Again, I would ask that when buying parts, especially on the aftermarket, PLEASE STICK TO MB, confirmed MB OEMs, or quality aftermarket parts manufacturers from the “Approved” list.
DO NOT BUY JUNK CHINESE PARTS.
DO NOT BUY PARTS FROM KNOWN JUNK PARTS VENDORS OR REBOXERS (with a small handful of exceptions).
IF THE PRICE IS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE, YOU ARE BUYING JUNK PARTS. DO NOT DO THIS.
IF YOU KNOWINGLY INSTALL JUNK CHINESE PARTS ON YOUR CAR, you are committing the equivalent of deliberate automotive defacement or vandalism to your own car.
CHEAP CHINESE PARTS, HOWEVER SMALL OR NON-CRITICAL, SUBTRACT FROM THE NET VALUE OF YOUR CAR. .
