Hi guys

Got in my car to find all the speakers dead! Subwoofer and the headunit work fine. Not changed any settings.

The fronts recently upgraded to Rainbow and have been working fine. Any ideas?

I hear a pop from the front passenger side speaker on start up of audio which might point me in the direction of the issues. I recently updated the fuses but I double checked and they look good.

Any thoughts?

Cheers,

Bill

Do you have the stock factory system in your car? I don't think a subwoofer was stock.

Stock head unit?

What year is your car?

1992.

Alpine head unit, FLI Trap 12 sub. Subwoofer still works fine (as can hear it booming etc) - nothing from the speakers. Speakers are not stock as per my post, Rainbow up front.

Just odd they've all gone out together? Can't see a fuse for the speakers either etc.

Cheers

Bill

OK pal thats helpful, not sure i've seen an amp if i'm honest but I guess all MB's have one somewhere?

Its Japan supplied if that makes any difference?

Guys, any thoughts on this please before I begin tearing the audio system to pieces?!

I have no loudspeaker option in my car, standard factory MB 500E system.

Bill,

Given that your car is a '92 if I had to guess I would say the odds are your tuner has problems and more than likely it is swollen or failed capacitors. There are quite a few threads on the board about the Becker 1432 system but the tuner is located in the trunk on the right side the trunk. Below is a sample picture I pulled off the internet but once once you remove the carpet piece you can't miss it:

Note: It is the large module on the rear side of the bracket. The two smaller square modules on the front of the brackets are the amps. From my experience with Becker technician who refurb'd my system he said those are pretty stout and rarely fail but if I were in your shoes if you want to keep the stock system I would have all three components as well as the head unit in the dash inspected. If the capacitors in the tuner are indeed the culprit the odds they are going to be in nearly the same state in the head unit as well. Hope that helps and good luck.

:cheers3:

Bill, is your car USA-spec, or Euro/Japan spec? All USA 1992-93 cars have the Becker 1432 systems.

However, non-USA cars may have a different setup... photos of your head unit may help; also need to know if your front doors have speakers or not.

:detective:

I had a similar problem not long ago but on a system without amplifier. Suddlenly all my speakers stopped working. I checked all the wires and realised one in particular was not working. I checked that one and found out that it was pinched by a cover in the trunk. Replaced it and everything worked again.
