AMG duck tail

I managed to source an original (new old stock) AMG ducktail. The quality is very nice, def a step above the knock offs. It's getting painted/installed on thursday. My verision is the one without the AMG logo formed in, just blank. I swear this looks smaller/better than the original ducktail that was on the original Hammers. I'll send pics of the final install. They did included a nice new 3 point star hood emblem for it as well.

Nice. That should set your car apart from most. No AMG logo is even better. Awaiting pics...

So finally got my AMG ducktail painted, and installed. The shop used some type of 3M tape adhesive tape to attach the spoiler to the car. I'm not totally happy with it, as the tape is causing the spoiler not to fit as flush as I would like in parts (due to the thickness of the tape itself), and I seems to be not adhering all that well at the edges of the middle spoiler. I know AMG recommened the drilling of two screws to install the middle spoiler, but I want don't want the install to be permanet (in case I decide to remove the spoiler in the future).

Is there a glue type adhesive that would work better in this situation?

If you're going to glue it, you're better off screwing it. I've tried to remove a glued ducktail before and there is absolutely no easy way to do it without causing damage to the truck and utterly destroying the ducktail. Bolt jolts can be filled and painted rather easily.

Did the shop use the specified double sided 3m? I've seen some parts come with an adhesive tape that is incredibly thin. That would be my preferred method.

Thanks. They used a double sided tape (I assume 3M), I'll have to see how thin the one they used was. Maybe there is a thinner 3M that I could try. Will stay away from the glue and screws for the time being, and give tape another try. Where the middle ducktail spoiler meets at the edges is where most of the problems lie, as it looks like the double sided is pulling away under some tension there. Seems to be you need to bend the original AMG spoiler there a bit to get it to fit. They prob had the fit good originally, but under tension it def separted a little.

I recommend 3M VHB. It measures 1.18mm with the facing on it and it's the stickyist stuff they make. Works very well.

Hi,
I know 1 guy form my local MB Club who is making a exact copy of all AMG parts to w124. It is fibreglass made but quality is really ok. I will ask him for some real photos of it.
