Hi guys (and gals)
Thought I'd gauge the collective brain trust here on S65 ownership. Yes I know all the tales of horror on known failures:mrgreen: They are a pretty rare beast, especially here in the Great White North.
Any board members have first hand experience on these monster V12's?
Cheers

This crowd is too smart to own one of those. :duck:

I think 600Eric might own a W222 65AMG car. But of course that has noticeable improvements over the W220 one, in both ABC and Ignition systems (coil packs, voltage transformers, ignition modules, etc.)

OY! Mine is not a S65 but close. A w220 S600 with the m275 V12. At 578hp & 910nm it isn't too far from the S65s. I bought it with a misfire and repaired it. (Left bank coil pack)

The M275 is an amazing engine. In short the w220 high spec V12TT w220s are very complex vehicles and have well documented weaknesses. (Ignition systems, ABC system and Engine mounts for example) But so long as they are maintained properly they are a joy to own and drive.

Yup it seems as if the coil pack failures are well documented with known, solid rep rebuilders around. Other than the ABC, which also have well known fixes available, I would think if you are halfway handy with a wrench and code scanner, if you pick up a gently used one you should be laughing:thumbsup2:

A good friend of mine purchased his W220 S65 new and kept it for some 10+ years before selling the car for a more family oriented ML166

The car was very quick for an S class surprising most and embarrassing many on the road.

The only issue he had was with the ABC system.

Problem is they’re almost never gently used... so you’re almost always buying a taxed transmission, in addition to the other issues, all for the privilege of caring for 4 extra cylinders and carrying an extra 400lbs around. 600s are gently used; 65s, never.
