Hi everyone,

Happy new year, first question of the year is:

Beru Automatic antenna 0460100450, has anyone tried to fit one on a 500E? any issues?
OE is not available, Hirschmann too, used is risky.

cheers

That is not a direct replacement for any E500E antenna (at least for USA), and will not fit properly.

What I've had to do is buy several used Hirschmann, and swap around parts to "build" a good used one.

Hi dave,

Non are to be seen anywhere. This beru set is said to fit W201 and some in germany had it fitted on W124 but I don't know what year/model.
Is there something particular that makes it no a direct replacement?

Its either this or a the cheap ones, I personally hate these automatic antennas and prefer the fixed telephone ones.. much cooler.

The top part that pokes through the hole in the quarter panel looks very different on that Beru universal-fit antenna. It MAY physically fit, and work fine, but it will not look correct externally. It also looks like this may be a better fit on models with a vertical antenna (like early 124/201), as the angled antenna may cause issues. Again, I don't know for sure, but it would be a gamble. Especially if nobody else has installed one on a late (approx 1989-up) 124 sedan and posted photos inside & outside after installing.

@speedy300dturbo had mentioned filling the hole in the fender and using an internal antenna instead, which is starting to sound like a good idea since Hirschmann ditched us on both antennas AND grommets!

BTW - I was only looking at the physical mounting at the sheet metal. There may be wiring issues as well, particularly the coaxial connection - not sure about that.

The A450 looks slightly more promising. Read the Amazon reviews though, they are mixed. One person claimed the Beru A450 is a rebranded Hirschmann 2050. If you try it, let us know how it works!

🌱

Well do dave, but if its the same unit as a Hirschmann 2050, i might as well go with the Hirschmann.

Again I really don't like these automatic antennas : /
