Best Klann spring compressor for front and rear axle?

Hey guys,

I am searching for a spring compressor (Klann) right now and wonder which one is better to use for both front and rear springs?
Which one should I get, the KL-0025-1 or the KL-0025-2 (the short one)?

Experience and recommendations are welcome!

It would be a nice benefit if the compressor works for R107, W126, R170 and W201 too...

Long one is required for front springs.

Short one is required for rear springs, but you may be able to CAREFULLY use a floor jack to lower the LCA to decompress the springs. This is much easier with Sportline springs. If you get the Klann short shaft, you still have to disconnect the LCA to get the spring out. There's not enough room to remove the spring with the LCA attached, as you can up front.

Yes, the compressor works for other chassis too, but you need the large diameter plates for S-class and some other chassis. See document linked below, the MB numbers are equivalent to the Klann long/short shafts and small/large plates.

Thanks a lot Dave,

is there a good spring compressor from an other company that can do both front and rear?

Is it possible to compress the rear spring a bit and remove spring and compressor with disconnected LCA and long compressor? Probably not I guess...

Edit: no sportline springs installed at the moment

There are a lot of Klann Klones available made in China/Taiwan/etc, but they all have the long shaft with both plate sizes. I don't know of any other source for the short shaft besides Klann or Miller/SPX, if you can find them.

If you buy aftermarket, make sure it's a copy of the Klann design with the 3 locking notches, not the type with the side of the plate "open" as shown below - those are dangerous:

You will pay good €€€ for even a used Klann. But it is worth it.

The plates for the 126 and 123 are useful to have, but of course not needed for the 124.
