I agree, it sure ain't pretty, but then again, beauty lies in the eye of the beholder and judging by how many of these I've seen rolling around in Germany back in the day, a bunch of people must have thought it was worth their money

Yeah, it is indeed, with an early R129 7-slat grill insert...
I must confess, I really wanted to do this to my W201 in the 90's but couldn't find a donor SEC hood to graft... Now that I'm looking back at these, kind glad I didn't do it!
Now you know why its not there anymore
Plus the registration department considered it a "body modification". It had to be changed back to original to get the car registered in Kuwait.
There were a few companies in Germany offering the SL-Hood with the louvered grill, this one was from Schatz.

The only "SL Style" conversion/modification I though was a well suited (arguably) was for W202, as done by Expression imo Expression motorsport - Tuning for Mercedes-Benz - C Class w202
