Is anyone able to access the forum via Tapatalk? Mine isn't showing anything.
Also, is there a way to reverse the order of posts in a thread so that the newest post displays at the top?

Tapatalk access has not yet been initiated on their end per registration. The extension has been installed, but I have work to do with them to finalize it. Another thing to do -- will likely happen this week.

In the meantime, enjoy the new experience with a desktop and browser !!!

:update:

Tapatalk functionality should now be working. I just landed less than one hour ago in Boston so hustled to get this taken care of right after I landed.

I was able to add the 500Eboard.co forum to my Tapatalk app on my phone, and then see the forums and threads here. Let me know if you have any issues.

Cheers,
Gerry

It still doesn't work for me, but I don't think tapatalk is the priority.
You've already done a hard job.

I just logged in using Tapatalk on my phone, so it should be working. You need to search for and then add the new forum to your forum list on the app.

I don't know about search yet....haven't tried it.

There is no database issue with the site. If there were, it wouldn't be operating at all.

Is search working for anyone, or is that part of the database issue?
I rebuilt the search index, and this I think took care of the issue. Search was not working for me after I saw your post, and then after rebuilding the search index it worked nicely.

For now, until I get the elasticsearch stuff sorted out. That's a hairball that is going to take some time to deal with.

Tapatalk is working on my phone for the new forum; I just got an alert to a new conversation from skikrazey. Works just fine now.

Another pesky bug has been excised ... the forum e-mail system should now be working fine.

I have sent test emails to Glen and gsxr to ensure that the system is working fine in terms of sending messages to folks. I noticed in the server logs today, that a few attempts had been made for the system to send mails, and had failed. I believe I got that problem now fixed.

Cheers,
Gerry

Another smilie working ... three added, hundreds more to go.....

Gerry, is not being able to see pictures in the posts, the ones with [ img]......[/img] strings temporary?

Those are likely posts where someone posted photos via links, which a modification on the old system I'd made automatically imported and then attached to the post every 10 minutes. I have all of the imported photos (there are a LOT of them) and I need to figure out a way to link the posts with those photos to the stored images.

Can you provide me with some examples of posts where photos with the (img) strings are not displaying?

I know other posts (such as HOW-TOs that I've done) do have their images displayed correctly.

This will be a high priority bug, and I hope to get it done in the next couple of weeks.

Having a few examples of non-displaying images would be helpful.

Thanks !!

If I'm searching for a car based on the VIN.

For example: WDBEA36E9NB786771

From this thread:

This is the result:

No results found

If I search for the word "flipper"

I get a significant number of results. Where it would appear search is functioning properly.

Is it possible to re-name things? For example, can "Conversations" be changed back to "Private Messages"?

Funnily enough... if you search for WDBEA36E9NB786771 now, the only result is THIS thread!

When I rebuilt the search index last night, I got a database error, so the job didn't totally complete. It turns out this is a configuration issue with the MySQL database, so I have to go into the configuration file to tweak a couple of numbers (I could not do this with the old forum/hoster). This will allow things to complete, and I will plan to run another search index rebuild tonight. This should help get the "stock" XenForo search system in order.

The next problem is the final tweaking of the elasticsearch-based system, which is going to take much more effort........

Gerry, is it possible to turn off the automated "enhanced URL" formatting? Any URL pasted gets this stuck ahead of it:

URL unfurl="true"

It's annoying, as it adds a mini-banner for some URL's, and shows an erroneous error for some valid URL's (like AutoTrader links). Removing the unfurl="true" fixes this.

Another item: Can image insertion be defaulted to thumbnails? The page load time was several MINUTES on this new thread due to a few dozen high-res images being inserted in-line:

Worse yet, I don't see an easy way to fix it. When I edit the thread and try to change all to thumbnails, the thumbnails appear to insert below the full-size images.

Dave,

You gotta get upgraded to Windows Bob and a DSL ISDN line before it will get better.

I've noticed when old threads come up when searching outside the site in Google they no longer take you to said thread but the home page... Anyone else experience as much?

It's going to take time for Google to re-index with the new site. I'm working on a redirection situation to redirect links from the old site URLs to this site's URLs. Again, one of many dozens of issues to work on.....and it's not like I have a lot of help on this stuff (not to mention a job and a life outside of the site)......

Pictures uploaded / attached by IPhone using the tapatalk app appear as RedX or broken links in my owner thread.

here is a link example: https://www.500eboard.co/forums/index.php?threads/owner-nocfn.7162/post-108726
OK, I removed the domain re-direct from 500Eboard.com to this forum. This re-enabled the images to load where they are linked, to the proxy here. I'm hoping that this site will store them and then they will be available for future display.

The only downside is that the old forum will not automatically redirect to this site. I will have to change the DO NOT GO POSTAL message there to tell people manually to go to this site.

This stuff is complicated, but I guess being able to display images here from the old site (at least until they are proxied here) is more important....

Thanks from the Houston Rodeo! Waiting on Carlos Santana to set up the stage.

I think I have successfully disabled this. Let me know if it needs more work.

Hey, is this thing on? Apparently some users are having access issues?

Many pics are back now Gerry, thank you.
It is. "Some users" failed to update their bookmarks to the new site URL...

As I said, I un-forwarded the old 500Eboard.com domain. This allows the proxy server on this new forum, to go back to the old site and "fetch" imported images stored there, and then moves/stores them on this site going forward. I'm going to have to leave this un-forwarded for quite some time, until folks click on enough threads to proxy and store the images here.

Since yesterday, when I unforwarded the old domain, the proxy has already stored more than 1,600 of the imported images. There are some images that aren't going to come over, but at this stage it's important that we try to get as many as we can. (As a backup, I also have all of the imported images stored on our server, but unfortunately I can't change the requests in each post to go out to the old site to get them from there).

As LWB said, folks need to update their bookmarks to "500eboard.co/forums" instead of ".com/forums"

One of the next projects I'm going to do is create a "home page" at 500eboard.co that will be a landing page and then link to the forums. I had the same thing implemented at the old site. That way when someone goes to 500Eboard.co, they will see something come up. Right now I have the server set up so that it provides an error message, so that folks can't see the files and folders that are stored in the public_html directory. It was a very temporary fix until I get a "normal" home page set up. It's fairly easy to do within this forum's software.

I have a potential fix for this, using a built-in capability of XenForo called "route filters". This will potentially redirect outgoing URL requests to the images on the old server (the imported images) to the same images on the new server, where I have copies of them stored with the same file structure. THis would allow me to re-forward the 500eboard.com domain back to 500Eboard.co.

I'm researching how to do this now. It's a very advanced capability and has to be done exactly right, or it can and will "break" other features of the forum. Hoping I can get this nailed soon.....

It can be, but more likely I will tweak the image settings so that these nasty type of high-res images are not able to be attached. That's some tweaking with the physical size as well as the file size. Maybe I can put a 3MB limit on images.

I try to be a nice guy and be generous with the file size limits, and then someone creates a thread and attaches 25 images of 5MB each. SIGH.

Problem is, even if limited to 3MB, the same issue remains... deathly slow load times. That's why on VB, I would always change people's inline images to attachments - page loads 10x faster when there are a lot of pics. Long page load times is very high on my list of pet peeves with any forum, or any web page for that matter.

It's another $30 for an aftermarket add-on that would automatically do this. I'm not willing to pay that developer $30 for the add-on at this point in time -- I've put out hundreds of dollars in fees and costs in recent weeks to keep this forum going and support the migration.

oh my goodness..this was a massive change.Looks like an Apple APP now :)
Jokes aside...all pictures and videos are gone..at least in my owners thread..thats kinda shitty ... :(

My needs are simple...

I like to read the latest posts in the first position.

How can I achieve this?
I'm not sure what you mean. Can you explain further?

Do you want to see a list of new posts since your last visit? If so, then you can click on the "New Posts" link at the top of the page.

If you want to see the latest post in a given thread, if you click on the highlighted thread title, it should take you to the latest post that hasn't been read in that thread.

If you want to change the order in which the posts are displayed in a given thread, you can click the "Filters" link in the top right of a sub-forum display, and you can adjust how it is displayed (newest first, or newest last, ascending order, descending order, etc.).

Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Gerry

Well, that's what happens when you LINK to things, rather than ATTACH things. We're working on ensuring that all of the old content makes it over, and are doing several things to make it happen. No content has been lost.

You also use Photobucket, which is one of the most un-friendly photo hosters out there. All of the content you posted on Photobucket has never been imported by the old forum into the archives there because of their stupid unfriendly greedy rules, and thus because it wasn't archived by the old site, it can't be brought over to this site. Photobucket doesn't like links to its content without payment......and I REFUSE to pay them anything for photos that other people post to that crazy-ass site.

Particularly because we have pretty much unlimited (and generous) storage of files here on this site ... much more so than nearly any forum out there. There's really no excuse not to attach images here, or at least link to a "friendly" site or server.

My two cents.

Anyways..congratulations on the new look to the page.I can imagine alot of work went into this..and i respect that 100 percent!Viking toast :)
