Camshaft seals

I have a 1995 SL500, been replacing and doing a lot. I have a question. When replacing the cap and rotor I noticed a little oil behind the rotor sheild if you call it that. The plastic orange bowl shaped item that goes behind the rotor. Can the leaking oil pass electric current making the car misfire or not as powerful? Can I replace the $5 seals without buying a $100 tool? Maybe just a large socket or pvc pipe? What is the “professional tool” used and or would someone have a link? It wasnt super leaky. I just whiped off the area.

This issue is documented (along with solutions) in NUMEROUS threads here on the forum.

Your exact question about replacing seals with the front head covers on the car was just answered in another thread within the past two or three weeks. I bet if you try a search you can find it quickly.

This forum employs an incredibly powerful, commercial-grade search engine.
