Hi all Merc knowledgeables...
Here in OZ, and with limited finances I have an S320. Love it! But...
It would only give reverse when cold, after that zip.
So, the smart solution seemed to be a second hand gearbox, but
now I find them different.
The differences seem to be
1. Vacuum modulator, one vacuum tube on 300SE (722.371) and two tubes on S320 (722.371)
2. Is that the Speedo drive/pick up? 300SE on rear LHSide of extension housing 2 pin plug. The S320 does not have this.
So where and how does the speedo work.
3. Am I being silly/dreaming to try to be fitting this box in ??? Well yes, but needs must...

Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom,

Cheers from Oz

Is the 300SE from a 126 chassis, and the S320 a 140 chassis?

The speedo pickup should be electronic on both 126 and 140, a hole in the tail section where a sensor plugs into.

The 2-pin plug on the left side may be for a pressure switch on brake band B1.

Need to know the year/chassis of each to figure out if they might swap.

Alternately you could take apart your current gearbox and rebuild it yourself, if shifting well except for reverse, it might just need new reverse clutch discs along with replacing all seals.
