"Car life airbags"

Hi,
I recently read an article in a French magazine about the Jaguar XJS and how to buy it second hand.
In this article, the journalist says that they contacted Jaguar about the life expectancy of the airbags and that the answer was "The life of the car".
I wonder what the answer of Mercedes would be...
Alex

I have not replaced any of my airbags, but Mercedes stamps the expiration date on every door panel.
That might be their answer.

I read somewhere they "thought" our airbags last "only" 15 years, but both my mechanics never heard of a W124 airbag failing to date. Proof: check the topic 036 made a while back of the crashed Russian car: airbags deployed.

The following information is for the US cars only. I do not know MB policy on non-US cars with airbags.

Originally, MB airbags were spec'd for a 10-year lifespan. A bit later in the early 2000s, MB extended the life specification to 15 years, at which time the owner was SUPPOSED to have new ones installed.

I believe that both GSXR and 2Phast have WIS technical documents on this topic posted to their web sites.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Gerry

Hi,
Considering the cost of such a replacement, not to say of our lifes, that's what you call a good news.
Thanks,
Alex
