Climate Control Blower

It's moderately difficult, mostly it's a pain to take apart all the stuff to access the blower. Actually swapping the blower motor itself is a breeze. After installing the new motor, test it out BEFORE you put everything back together. Make sure it spins quiet & smooth, and that the plastic cages do not touch anything when spinning. Here are links to the FSM procedures you will need:

Dead links? Admin update - Links fixed.

About a week ago my a/c compressor started to squeak slightly. But it worked fine and I had planed to make a repair within the near future.

Today, I had no response from my Climate Control. No fan. So I have no air flow. If the car is moving I can feel slight air flow.

Question is.... Did my compressor "conk out"? And if it did would it also affect my climate control fan speed?

Yes, the fuses have been checked. They look fine. Actually, according to the manual the climate control shares the fuse with other amenities.

Please help. It's getting to hot in San Francisco. Today it got up to 73*.

The blower motor is not working. Low High or Auto. I checked the fuses and they seem okay. This was a sudden event. Things seemed fine yesterday. Today, nothing!

My a/c compressor also has a slight squeak. It blows (blew) cold when working.

Re: AC blower motor

That ps2cho.net domain has been down for a while now. His "new" domain is at www.w124-zone.com. However, you can get the factory 124 manual online through other sources, if you need it. I've attached the documents you requested per your post above.

Did you check the 30A blower motor fuse?

Next I'd check to see whether you are getting power to the blower motor, which you can check with a multimeter. You'll need to remove the windshield wiper to get to it, but it's not too difficult of a job. If your blower motor doesn't have power, it's one of three things:

- pushbutton control not working (not passing signal per your input) - somewhat likely problem but I haven't seen it a lot
- blower motor inoperative (only moderately likely)
- blower motor regulator failed (probably the most likely)

Generally when you have a situation where the blower motor doesn't operate at all (like what happened to my wife's E320 wagon a few years back), or where it only operates on a single speed no matter what mode the ACC is set in, then it is the blower regulator.

The regulator is directly underneath the blower, and it's a very good idea just to replace both together at the same time and save yourself the labor, as replacing the regulator is incremental to replacing the blower fan itself.

There is plenty of information on troubleshooting the climate control system, but if you have an inop fan, then it's going to be one of those three items. There are some good, illustrated instructions on the blower + regulator replacement, located here. And another how-to, located here.

Hope this all helps.

Cheers,
Gerry

I had a squeaky blower motor that needed to be replaced. I also had zero airflow at all speeds, but that was due to a loose cable underneath the console. Once the cable was reattached, the old blower motor did work, but still with the squealing/whistling noise. See if any cables are loose.

Re: AC blower motor

I checked the fuse box. Would that include the Blower Motor fuse? 30A.... That's a big one!
