CLK LM engine confusion

What are the reasons for them using these custom stoke and core configurations? is it due to increased RPM and compression ?
 
Assuming these were not engines designed for street use: The custom/odd dimensions may have been due to competition rules, i.e. max displacement for a given engine configuration, or even fuel consumption if a race series has limits on amount of fuel allowed.

Would be nice to know for sure though.

The key thing in racing engine design:
- longer rod (usually)
- max piston speed

So you create a crank that allows you safe max engine with the biggest displacement you need.
Bigger stroke = component loading.
Bigger bore = bigger/longer engine, less thick bores, cylinder deflection, local overheating in between the matching cylinders.

I find the CLK-LM engine from the pics to be quite close to normal M119, but I think it had DOHC VVT (if not, why have 2 cam sensors on each head) and it has lighter head casting (proprietary).
The CLK-LM head doesn’t have a water cooler exhaust flange (like Sauber and production M119 have).
 
I found this, belonging to the Joe Macari CLK LM.
" CLR test vehicle manufactured for LeMans 1999, with 5.72L-V8-180 degrees "Spec LM99" engine.
It was crashed during a private track day at Bahrain International Circuit in 2017.
It was Later rebuilt and converted for road use."

Conflicting information, as often seen !!

Since here it shows V8/90° 4v DOHC 5957 cc N/A for chassis 3 and 4.

Regarding cross plane / flat plane = 90° and 180°.
Post #41 shows "ich war der Chiefdesigner vom CLK-LM. Wir fuhren die FIA-GT mit einem 180° V8 und in Le Mans mit einem 90° V8".

So chassis 1 and 2 should have had 180°, and 4989 cc should be 4986.

One of the bespoke GT108C engines used in the CLR has popped up for sale. Pretty wild stuff.

I wonder if it's complete? Sure looks like something is missing on the back side... are the camshafts even in there?

Yeah - the wording could also imply there are no rods or pistons.

The engine version of "ran when parked"?

If this was written and punctuated differently it could or should include pistons:

The advertisement states “camshaft housing” BUT it will make an AWESOME $77K coffee table display & the PLENUM won’t fit under the hood of the E500E! :jono:

Maybe @Draginev could redesign the hood so @gsxr could run it in SUPERSTOCK.

BTW; Those SS Hesders are AWESOME!

On serious note: It might look like a camel if the hood is elevated.
If engine was a rear-end, like super/hypercars, then it will fit 100 % with no compromise.
