I have a silver 1995 MB and the clear coat appers to have moderately deep scratches. Looks like some one drove it thru a sand storm.

It there anyway to repair the clear coart. One paint shop told me know. Another guy said he could color sand the bad areas and buff it out.

Anyone have experience with this? Did you find a cure. Any help and product manufactures and grades of compounds is greatly appreciated.

thanks

Scratches and defects can be sanded and polished if they are not too deep. Deeper than base coat or peeling clear is a bad sign. Try searching online for a professional auto detailer (not a carwash) in your area and get a few estimates.

I have the same issue with my 1993 500e. I have had 3 professional detailers tell me there is no solution to Mercedes silver clear coat cracking. They can do the traditional clear coat wet sand repair but shortly after the streaking etc comes back worse. Let me know if you have seen Otherwise. Andrew

It cant be detailed out. Its separation of clear and color. I had three cars like this, was told they would have to be painted.

Did your guys clear coats look like scratches, almost like car was driven thru a sand storm?
I also thought maybe the previous owners rove it thru a car wash that had new stiff bristles on the roller brushes.
Darn, I hear Mercedes does a multi-step (13 steps) paint process. I guess they failed at the clear coat level.
