DIY: First Gear Start Module

Can't confirm. But I bought one at the end of 2013. Didn't install it and don't plan to either. If anyone is interested in buying it, I am selling...

It appears that the vendor FGSSwitch.com is out of business? Their web site is down (http://www.fgsswitch.com)
Looks DOA to me, unless someone forgot to renew their domain, which would be a serious business "oopsie". :oops:

On the bright side, it might help me sell the couple of FGS valvebodies that I recently acquired! LOL!

:jono:

The fgsswitch domain has been up and down for the last year or so. I bought one a few years back, but haven't got to installing it yet though. Discovered that I lost the software for it and headed to their website about a year ago just to see that it was down. Said some not to beautiful words in Swedish and forgot about it. Stumbled across the site some months later and the pages where up!! Downloaded all needed and backed up properly...

Resuscitating a rather old thread. Did anyone ever install this fgsswitch unit and if so, how involved is it? Looking to buy a used unit from someone who ran it on their 500E.

I believe that @2phast had installed it on his red 500E many years back, and was happy with it. I think a couple of other members also purchased them, but 2Phast was the primary one I remember. I'm sure he can detail his experiences.

Have you searched the forum to see if there are any other posts with folks' experiences?

Thanks Gerry. I reached out to Matin to see how he likes the Bergwerks module he bought - believe you have that installed too, correct? Just saw the FGSSwitch module for sale and am considering buying it while looking through old threads about testimonials

Yes, I've had the BergWerks module installed since the 2003-2004 time frame in my E500. Has always worked quite well.

Connect with @2phast re: FGSSwitch. I do not believe that module is produced any longer (nor has the BergWerks module been available for many years).

Seller just provided me with this. Maybe something for this site's document stash Gerry?
Interesting document - thanks for posting! The data recording options (0-100/0-200kph, and 1/4 mile) is interesting. Shame it's not configurable to allow data capture at higher resolution for user-specified time or distance intervals.

Additional function of module is exact measurement of dynamic characteristics of the vehicle (MDC). MDC function begins time count automatically, from the receiving of the first pulse of ABS sensor. The user can choose one of three modes of measurement:
- Acceleration time 0-100 km/h;
- Acceleration time 0-200 km/h;
- Quarter mile pass time.
The gained information can be displayed on user's PC. The time measurement occurs constantly, in automatic mode, without dependence of whether function 1stGearStart is switched on or not. Accuracy of measurement is 0.01 sеc.

I have a new boxed one of these if I can find it in my stash :tears_of_joy: When I find it I will offer it for sale since I dont see my actually using it

Yes, had one on my car for many years. Mine had a serial interface and I never managed to get it to work with a serial to USB converter, so I sourced a older notebook with a serial port and found a serial cable to program the unit. Never had to touch since.

I did configure the upshift to occur at around 25mph, which resulted in a short 2nd to 3rd shift.

Tim, for sure you asked me about FGSS. It was really funny, when two non German speaker's try to make a deal on German ebay! I had an idea place FGSS for sale here on 500eboard, but the reason why did not it, mostly all potential buyers from another continental, and also I am not so active user here, would be strange to be quite, and later come and start active sale :)
