ASR OFF Module Redux

Wuttayagonna do on an otherwise cold, dark, boring day??

…prototype enhancements for unnecessary existing stuff… (of course).

It was the coldest, dampest day of winter so far. I woke up to an early morning distress call from my busy buddy whose 740il driver’s door latch was frozen open & wouldn’t close. BMWs…sheesh.

Saved his ass. Froze Mine.

Returning home, I went down into the dungeon lab to warm up & then somehow decided to pretty up my ASR OFF Module. I like to keep things “Mercedes-esque”. Here’s the resulting configuration utilizing a surplus 8 pin MB socket. All input/output wires contained in one easy connection. Plug then play :e500launch:. I kinda like how it is turning out so far.

Nice. How will this connect to the car?

As usual. +12v switched (via the ASR OFF switch) & Gnd go to 2 sockets. 6 wires out via the 3 relays to the ASR CAN module for the remaining 6 sockets. The corresponding plug contains the mating input/output wires.

For some reason (probably a women), I thought about this config last night & today was the day to build it. This streamlines the ASR OFF wiring circuit within the car & consumes another item from my MB "junque" box.

A on/off switch will control the relays. When in the "on" position, the three ASR wires pass through the relays unabated. When the switch is turned "off" the latching function of the SPDT relays will break the circuit of the three ASR wires and thus, disabling ASR.

I am sure there is a matching male 8 pin connector that will provide connectivity to the on/off switch, switched 12 volt and ground.

A very nicely executed relay arrangement btw.

Oh. At first I thought you figured out a simpler way to patch into the those three circuits. I understand now and I agree with Rik, very tidy!

Great work, Derf! :-)

Very tidy result...unlike your workbench.. :D

Oh - the workbench is great, all stuff within reach. BTW, is that two-tone horn to alarm your wife for more coffee? :-) (I bet Site Honcho have one too..)

Just discovered I never provided closure to this project...

As previously alluded, my goal was to bundle the majority of required components into a tidy, compact package utilizing as many surplus MB items as possible. The module was finalized once I got my hands on the male pin connector (009 545 53 28) to mate with female socket connector 006 545 81 28.

I was quite happy with the finished product after adding the 8th pin to the male connector. :checkeredflag:

So what ever happened with the "Modzonafication" ASR OFF group buy? (I've been away for a while...)
