door lock relay on 1993 500SEL

Just bought a '93 e500, vin starts with wdbga51, I guess that makes it a w140. The car has some small issues that need addressing, one of them I can not get a handle on is the door locks. Neither the key, nor the remote ir nor the door lock switch work. The ir light on the handles does flash orange and green with the manual key and the remote, so i suspect the door lock relay, there is such a thing, no? If there is a door lock relay, can somebody please communicate it's location?

Thanks in advance,

Dimitris

That would be a 1993 500SEL, which is completely different from the 500E. The 500E in USA does not have IR locks and does not have soft-close doors. There is not a door lock "relay" but there is a control module for IRCL (Infrared Central Locking) which might be the brains of the locking system. Try posting on Benzworld or other forums...

Thanks for the redirection:) I know it is not a 500E, still confused about the SEL / E500 thing. Everything inside reminds me of my old 560SEL's.
Off to the ircl world, thanks again:)

More than likely the pump for the locks has failed. Does the soft close function work when you gently close the doors?like gsxr had stated the control/pump module is located under the rear seat on the passenger side enclosed in a block of foam. A lot of them fail because leaks cause the pump to run excessively wearing out the brushes.

Tomorrow the pump is coming out of it's causy spot under the rear seat and I will run the full diagnostics. Seen some videos where the pump impeller is replaced, one video even shows a motor replacement, I am lucky to have access to a fantastic machine shop, so I will post how this little project will end. Again, I really appreciate being shown the direction to go. btw, I still have not investigated if i have the soft close too, that would be another pump in the trunk,no?
d.

No, it’s the same pump however there is a second pump that drives the trunk lid soft close and retracting handle. You can also try removing the fuse for the pump to see if it resets.
