E500 Limited for sale

Hello Folks,

I currently have my E500 Limited up for sale on a few websites for a while, but I've just paid my insurance for another year, so I reckon it's time to get a bit more serious about it...

I'm based in Dublin, Ireland and the car is currently advertised here in Ireland:

http://www.carzone.ie/search/Mercedes-B ... annel=CARS

and also on the Mobile.de site:

http://suchen.mobile.de/fahrzeuge/detai ... ee1c070277

Some of the information is already in the ads, but I'll add a little more here. Unfortunately my geographical location doesn't help, but Ryanair do fly to Dublin...

I've had the car for 5 years and I've enjoyed all my time with it. Ideally it would be great to hold on to it, but I don't have the facilities to store a car close by and I believe these cars thrive best when given regular usage. It's time for something different and I'd like to have a right hand drive car again for a while!

While some of the trials and tribulations have been described on this site and the old 500Ecstasy website, the car has never let me down and always been great to drive, even if there were niggles from time to time.

The throttle controller and wiring harness have been changed and I changed the rear spheres shortly after I bought it. In fact I think the spheres were fine and I should have bought new tyres first, which were the real problem, but you live and learn. The original (still functioning) throttle is also available. The EGAS controller was also changed as an S500 one was fitted when I bought the car.

I have a list of the parts, service parts and prices in Excel that I've put into the car in the years I've had it, if that would be useful to anyone.

The car was bought in Coys Auctions in London and then imported into Ireland: http://www.motorsnippets.com/cars/Coys_ ... 1_147a.asp.

It was bought by a Mercedes specialist here in Ireland before being sold to the person I bought it from. I bought it with 100,000 KM on it so I've put up a good portion of the mileage.

The price is €17.500, or nearest offer. The price is negotiable.

The price is a reflection, to a large extent, on the cost of importing cars such as these into Ireland. "Vehicle Registration Tax" is currently 36% for cars with a high CO2 level (226g/km CO2 and over) and is paid on the expected selling price of the car, so import duty would be calculated as €17,500 * 36% = €6,300. Except you're not allowed to call it "import duty" in the EU, hence the "VRT" which is payable when the car is first registered in Ireland.

I've attached the list of options and build information below. The only unusual item is the additional trunk lock. Interestingly it does not seem to have been fitted with the EVO II wheels as standard.

Hi Paschal.

So you are selling your Limited. I think you should add the VIN to your spec. list too. I have a couple of questions, hope you don't mind.
- What is the; 884 TRUNK LID ADDITIONAL LOCKING MECHANISM?
- From the interior photo it seems that the; 570 FRONT ARMREST WITH BOX is replaced with a regular armrest, right?
- How would you describe the condition on the Limited leather?

Cheers

Hi Arnt,

The VIN for my car is WDB 124036 1C 189519 9. I forgot to include it...

When I bought my car it was described as one of the last 70 made, however having seen production figures elsewhere, I think this is unlikely.

The "Additional Locking Mechanism" is exactly that. It seems to be a deadbolt arrangement consisting of a loop, to the left of the existing lock, with a corresponding hole in lower part of the boot to receive it. Perhaps the original owner was particularly security conscious...

I don't have any photos but I'll take some tomorrow and post them for interest.

The armrest is a standard armrest, the same as in my old 300E. There is no box or anything like it. Perhaps the code is a general one.

With regards to the leather, that is more disappointing. The leather itself is still in excellent condition, however the pattern on the drivers side is almost completely worn away. It looks like this finish is just painted on and definitely does not wear well. The leather in the door cards seems to be very easy to scratch, though the scratches were there when I bought the car.

Have you found this to be the case on your own car?

I've attached some photos.

Regards

Paschal

Thanks for the info. :)

I checked my equipment list and it's exactly the same as yours, except for the additional locking mechanism. (This mechanism sounds strange, never seen it.) The armrest has the same code too and it has no box in it.

I have the same grey leather and it's pity that the Limited leather wears rapidly. My drivers seat cushion don't have as much wear as yours, but it's surely on the way. It has also some finger nail scratches on the door trims, but the rest is in fact in a reasonable condition.

Cheers

It is a pity that the leather in the limited is so fragile, from a colour point of view. I think the different coloured leather does help to lift the interior and I wouldn't like to think that Mercedes only meant these cars for show rather than use...

I've attached some shots of the additional locking mechanism. Not much to look at but I presume it safe guards the boot, assuming someone doesn't have the key. Hopefully the pictures show the layout sufficiently well.

Regards

Paschal
