Hi all,

My profession requires me to have my own large format plotter. I just got a new one which can print large banners etc in high quality images.

As per the title if any members happen to have high quality images or soft copies of factory posters for example I would be most grateful for a copy - PM me for my email address etc

Note that it is not my intention to use these images for commercial gain!! It is for personal use of my own plotter and to deck out my garage etc with E500E Posters :)

PS I do already have a 500E fire and silk hardcopy

I bought a second large format plotter at the weekend which is a 12 ink model with non fade ink designed for plotting images and canvases. (Designjet Z3100ps Photo 44 inch)

I may be able to offer board members w124 / E500E artwork early next year when I have all dialed in. The plotter requires some maintenance which I am carrying out now.

If any members can provide a jpeg or other digital image file which is worthy of printing (and not available on google etc!!) will be entitled to a free hardcopy print! :p

Ok so after alot of work I have both plotters up and running 100% now. New print heads etc installed and fully serviced.

Anyway, now I am ordering gloss photo paper and possibly other media such as canvas to move on to experimenting with borderless photo plots etc.

I think if I were to provide w124 prints in the near future photo gloss rolled into a cardboard tube would be the most practical way to send posters to USA etc for a reasonable price.

However, would anyone be interested in canvas prints?

These could be supplied "raw" where you could mount to a frame yourself to keep shipping costs down or provided as full ready to go mounted canvases up to max A1 size but international shipping costs may be prohibitive in that scenario. Feedback or opinions on what might work best would be appreciated

I certainly would be. Going to be remodeling the ole shop here in a bit and looking for wall goodies.

What images were you thinking about starting with?

That's what I'm getting to grips with - what images might be available out there that would lend themselves to a canvas or photo print.

The files need to be high quality due to the large format size. I have been testing with gloss paper and the machines are producing A1 quality plots.

I am thinking that photo gloss prints will be the way to go in sizes such as A2. For reasons of shipping etc. People can them mount them in their own frames etc as they see fit.

I'd be interested in canvas as well as gloss. I favor the 3rd link from the Daimler site. I don't know if the image quality is sufficient but there are many very nice photos on this forum.

Gents- thankyou for all of the feedback & links so far it is much appreciated. I will update where I am at now:
I have 2x large format plotters. A Designjet T1100 which is a 6 ink machine – producing high quality plots. The picture below was plotted on it for example:

20181115_202047.jpg

BUT, I also have a recently acquired Designjet Z3100 large format Photo Plotter which has 11 Inks + Gloss enhancer. The trouble is the previous owner used it very little (It’s got 540 metres on it.... usually these have 20,000+ metres on them) and it was still on it’s original ink cartridges mostly. The worst thing is he left it powered off when not in use – big mistake. These machines must be left on at all times as they carry out their own Ink system maintenance cycles to prevent the heads from drying out. I leave mine on 365 days a year even though there is a little power consumption from it.

On the Z3100 I installed all new Inks & Printheads when I got it because of this. Initially all was well but one issue cropped up after several prints because of the above issues. It wasn’t firing MK Ink after the new printhead ran dry:

20181115_202212.jpg

I bled the Ink line, flushed fresh Ink through it and got it to fire the MK ink again but I require a special tool to re-prime / fill the new MK printhead which is 2 or 3 weeks away. Really it will be simple when that tool arrives to resolve that one residual issue - which will make it fire MK ink properly. I could use the T1100 but really the Z3100 is a proper professional large format photo printer so I want to use it for W124 Artwork. They can operate with reduced printheads as they programme those out (within reason) but I want it 100% before I begin.

The HP Designjet Z3100ps GP also uses the 12-ink HP Vivera pigment ink system to create a rich colour gamut and produce vibrant colours for exquisite museum-quality prints that resist fading for more than 200 years on a range of HP media.

Additionally the HP 70 Gloss Enhancer and HP Quad-black ink set creates beautiful black and white prints and achieve truly neutral greys under different lighting conditions. The Gloss Enhancer and blacks also provide continuous tones, uniform gloss and rich blacks, making the HP Designjet Z3100ps GP ideal for high-quality proofing applications, in addition to fine art reproductions and photographs.

Excellent update Joe.

That test run with the “inferior” machine looks amazing! Can’t wait to have a source for these :)

I got the first large format photo plots done this evening from my “inferior”:) T1100 machine for now.... it’s producing pretty epic quality prints! Indeed A2 appears to be a nice size (although I can go larger up to A0+ if desired). The white edges will be trimmed off or I will do full bleed, edge to edge plots to eliminate that.

This is full gloss HP Instant Photo Dry paper. This is perfect media for a standalone poster – AKA to be pinned on a wall “bare”. I am also getting some canvas and a satin pearl type photo paper for mounting in glass frames etc. Stay tooned! Should be able to start producing plots for Board Members in a couple of weeks – I will PM anyone who had expressed interest on this thread on a first come first served basis.

Dang, those are nice

Thankyou for the nice comment! The pictures of the prints don't do them justice. They "pop" in person with the detail. Really pleased with them.

I will likely start a new thread when ready and post details on pricing and postage etc to USA etc. They would ship in a cardboard spool and shipping cost will be the same no matter how many posters someone might want to buy. (I'll cover the weight added to postage cost for multibuys)

Hi All,

OK I have since done my math on Ink + media costs etc to determine a what I feel is a reasonable re-sale cost. Note that I only use genuine HP Inks, printheads and Media. Many large format plotters will use CIS bulk Inks for saving for example - but they may not last the 200year anti fade quality that genuine HP inks have for example.

Therefore like most things in life, you get what you pay for. Using genuine inks etc prolongs the life of the machine and produces highest quality prints which will last for many, many years without fading. (200 is what HP Say :))

So for an A2 Sized photo plot (420 x 594mm; approx 16 x 24 inches) The cost for 1x print supplied in a cardboard shipping tube is £26 GBP for Board members. This excludes shipping costs - I can ship anywhere and you only pay the exact courier price. If anyone is interested please PM me. As I said I will create a new thread also in the coming weeks to make things clearer.

OK so not wanting to get toooo many order just at the moment I’ll ping this update onto this thread again.... My plotters are up and running 110% and the gloss media is what I am using until further notice due to it’s super appearance. I did also try a Pearl Satin media and didn’t really like the appearance of the print and it’s fragile nature which can be marked with the oil in your skin even. The gloss finish looks great and it fairly robust. (Note for interior use only)

2no sizes of posters are available. These are A2 Size and A1 Size APPROX:

A1 594 x 841 mm 23.4 x 33.1 in

A2 420 x 594 mm 16.5 x 23.4 in

Actual print size supplied will be slightly smaller than dimensions stated above due to varying margins which will be guillotined off by me as a part of producing the posters. Margins range from 0 up to 30mm approx due to the original size of the image and how it fits onto the large format print without distorting it.

Current pricing is as follows:

A2 Posters:
1 x poster = £26GBP + Postage
2x posters = £44GBP + Postage (£22 per Poster)
3x posters = £58.50GBP + Potage (£19.50 per poster)

£19.50 Per poster is the max discount for A2 sized prints

A1 Posters:
1 x poster = £44GBP + Postage
2x posters = £76GBP + Postage (£38 per Poster)
3x posters = £97.50GBP + Potage (£32.50 per poster)

£32.50 Per poster is the max discount for A1 sized prints

Purchases over 6no posters will also benefit from free shipping to most destinations. (UK – USA – Europe)
Current selection is numbered as follows:

If anyone wants to place an order for posters please PM me. Posters are made to order! Note that I do not know the current cost to USA but I when people order I will then post the actual shipping costs for comparison.

Note that I am also working on the Factory E500E poster to do a total remake in English version wording and much higher quality – coming soon! I will compare the german 500E posters and the new revised one I will be offering and the difference in quality will be clear to see
