EZL module bypass ???

My friend told me that his M119 can run without EZL module. Once his EZL was dead, his mechanic has bypassed the EZL module. He directly connected the signal from crankshaft position sensor (CPS) / L5 directly to the ignition coil. But need very specialized wiring. So he could save a lot of budget for fixing the EZL issue. Is it real?

Sounds like weapons-grade baloneyum to me, at least on the M119 with LH-SFI injection. I call BS on this one.

I'd say video of it running or it didn't happen....I'm leaning real hard towards the didn't side of thing, but I'd be thrilled if he could show me otherwise!

I'd say if the engine could run without one somehow, it would run very, VERY badly. The EZL doesn't just fire the coils, it controls ignition timing based on RPM, engine load, intake air and coolant temperatures, absolute barometric pressure, retards timing on individual cylinders based on knock sensors, and a zillion other things.

For cryin' out loud, used 5.0L EZL's are only a few hundred bucks (4.2L are even cheaper), if one fails just replace the damn thing. Paying a mechanic hours of labor to Mickey-Mouse some funky wiring hack that makes it worse for more money is insane.

I hear ya there...I'm just more intrigued by the novelty of it...ie, EZL takes a dump when i'm out in no-whereville, would be spiffy to have a work around!

True! My solution is to keep a spare used EZL in the spare tire well if I will be traveling out of town more than 100 miles. Under 100 miles, AAA Plus covers my towing back home.

AAA Premier is my name of the game...one 200 mile tow, then 4 100 milers...;)

as much as I try to be prepared for the un-expected can't cover ALL bases w/o loading the car up with parts and tools.
