I can certainly vouch for the quality of 5SR product. This is an excellent exhaust system and I'm extremely pleased with the build quality.

I can't wait for the tingle in my loins from my butt-dyno going off the scale after I install mine. :jono:

I have one Brabus style tip available.

Original buyer backed out.

I believe there are links to recordings in the appropriate thread. Just need the dyno plots and we're 100% good.

Custom cam grinds? Anything for M119?

:v8:

I have looked into the m119 but the problem with doing cams is ignition control.

You will need to be able to do some sort of ignition and mild fuel control.

AFAIK, there is pretty much no way to advance ignition timing on the M119... we're stuck with the factory maps.

Fuel control is doable, at least to a small extent.

Hagmann's cams are NLA, I think dBilas may still do regrinds, but new billets would be nice. Details on Hagmann/dbilas offerings are in this old thread:
http://www.500eboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1000

A dyno-proven gain of 20-30hp on a 5L would be nice if it didn't require the heads to come off for installation.

:apl:

How easy of an install is an exhaust system? Do I need welding skills? Thanks.
Everything should be bolt-on, no welding required. It will be much easier if you have a lift.

Removing the old exhaust may be a challenge, particularly separating the resonator from the rear of the stock catalysts, especially if they have not been taken apart in decades.

:sawzall:

My exhaust it designed to be a 100% bolt on.

Front to back with a lift it takes 30min to hang the system and about 20-30 min to adjust everything so it all lines up.

The ieay is you hang entire system. Position the rear muffler then that Gutenberg’s from the front of the car working your way towards the back.

The hardest part is the y pipes by the manifold those need some ground clearance so you can rotate and pull down.
the second hard part is right after the cat one is a slip fit the other is a flange with seal. The slip fit will be tough it might even brreak off due to the rust build up.

I have 1 exhaust kit left.

Front with Catalyst and Rear section with turn down tips.

Tying to clean out old stuff so if anyone is interested i am willing to ship this out for free to anyone in the USA.

for international buyers i will cover up to $100.00 for shipping costs.

Are there plans for an additional production run, or is this it, forever ?!?

I think this will be it...

The 500e market is dead there has been no requests for more of these kits.

But I will always have the ability to make more in the future if there is enough demand.

I will always have the assembly jigs and fixtures.

IME, demand comes in spurts. It's premature to declare the 500E market as "dead". When there has been nothing available on the market for years, and a product becomes available again, there is a flurry of interest and sales. Then demand dies out, until years later when the cycle repeats. Probably could sell another dozen or two kits in 5-8 years, but until then you might get one or two people per year looking, maybe. Mostly from new owners just discovering the 036 and this forum. Same for limited-slip diffs, sway bars, yadda x3...

I agree with Dave -- my observation on these things over the past 15 years is that a few years will go by, and a few folks will start rumbling about buying a set. That will generate some new demand. Particularly for when folks' existing systems start to wear out, or a new generation of owners acquires the cars (seems to happen about every 5 years ... typical ownership turnover among about 50-60% of owners).

Good to know that you can ramp up again in the future, though. Again, 5SR, your service is much appreciated to the community here.

Absolutely LOVE my rear section (BRABUE STYLE), I now have a rattily CAT and need the test pipe section. I live in the sticks (no need for emissions) and only drive to shows so no need for cats.....Still available??
Thanks!!

JC, just wanted to post and chime in that I'm 100% happy and satisfied with the exhaust with the HJS 200cel cats. Put it on the car about 1.5 years ago and it's been amazing ever since.

I know I did promise to try to get it dynoed but I wasn't able to find a good shop locally with a good dyno. Will definitely update here if I ever do so, but don't count on it at the moment.

I know we're mostly focused on practical gains, but I have to ask, would you be able to make us some beautiful equal length high air flow headers for the M119? I saw some fliesen headers on the Leistung website.

What would the availability be like, and how can we make this happen? I have a feeling it'll sound like the Sauber C11 which probably has equal length headers on the M119.

I have two front sections left form the previous run. But iirc it’s built with catalysts. Let me double check and report back.

We started with header development on the m119 but we ran into problems.

Issues:
1. Space it’s really tight the design would be like a tubular log header. The equal length would take place past the motor mounts.

2. Additional heat leading to possible header cracking. Even with using 400 series stainless the sections are too short and small. It takes a lot of time to weld it together trying to control thermal expansion.

3.Price labor hours alone will drive the cost of the header. The one seen on leistung’s Instagram feed is for the 2.3-16. That unit with a revised down pipe is $1600.00.

It’s safe to say that a set of headers will be in the $3200.00 range which is expensive.

5SR,

Please mark me down for another Brabus unit for your next production run. Actually I’d like to get the full Monty kit with cats and everything.

Cheers,
Gerry

5SR,

Thank you for keeping the flame lit for us nut-head w124.036 types.

Please sign me up for the 2019 production run - I will take the front section with California catalyst, if possible.

Thanks.

Folks,

I was lucky enough to secure one of the limited builds from 2019 and today we fitted the whole package.

Craftsmanship, Artistry, Sound Engineering, Sublime. These are perhaps a few words that come close to describe what we were presented with from 5thscaleracer in the USA. He tirelessly supported us with provisioning all the additional fittings in case we needed them here in Australia. The additional two weeks awaiting for shipping was well worth it as all the additional parts, which he sourced from MB USA, were used in the fitment of the new exhaust.

The system was very well packed and made it from California to Western Australia in less than a week. The condition upon arrival was perfect and it could not have been packed better.

The removal of the old system and fitment of the new system was relatively easy. All up we must have spent around two hours to conduct the works. The final finish looked really good. The quality of the build is incredible and the fitment looks like it was fitted on the production line.

We then cranked the motor over and cracked it onto life....OMG....this sounds the way the E500 should have been from day 1. A pure V8 that rivals the Porsche 928S in terms of engine note. It sounds like a refined beast. It idles silky smooth with slight V8 undertone. When you hit the loud pedal, she comes to life and lets you know that she is all there.

We now have the only one in Australia and it complements our vehicle. And yes, they all look at you when you open the throttle...

Many thanks 5thscaleracer for you kind support and commitment. We are truly indebted to your efforts.

Cheers

Perry

Old thread but did a before and after dyno ever get done? What I find interesting is that Mercedes Benz chose (as did this builder) to make the exhaust a 2 into 1 after the cats for the 124 while other M119 models are 2-1-2. Curious. I can't figure out if the longer left bank down pipe acts as an H-pipe, something Mercedes loved putting in their M117 configs.
