FS: 1994 E320 Sportline/AMG Cabriolet, Signal Red/Red, 78kmi, $25k (Los Angeles, CA)

just suggested a new end of year category in the comments section of this auction.....give it a thumbs up vote on BAT if you think its a good idea "Dumpster Fire of The Year"

Anyone know what's going on with the AutoCheck report (post #125), that shows something in Arizona in Nov-2018, after the Montana title/registration?

Note the older photos show an Arizona plate on the car, newer photos show Montana plate 4-07919C .

And now:
"This listing has been withdrawn by BaT because something during this auction was not fair for the buyer and/or the seller. It might be re-listed in a future BaT Auction if this can be corrected and, if so, we will email all watchers of this listing. We apologize for the inconvenience."

The seller of this car has indicated to us that he will not honor his commitment to sell to the winning bidder. We do not tolerate this kind of behavior on BaT, and we are unfortunately forced to withdraw this auction as a result. This seller will not longer be permitted to buy, sell, or otherwise participate on the website going forward.

We apologize for any inconvenience this causes. Thanks to the community for your support.

seller officially banned from BAT.....you could have bet the farm on this outcome....just as you know this guy will show up again somewhere with this car....
too bad the weekend comedy show is over....back to the real world

Dude got totally poaned. He’ll never sell that car now, unless he breaks it up for parts. Lol he spent $11K on a paint job for literally no purpose.

This one is going to go down in the annals of MB fame, and not in a good way.

How does BAT ban someone? Havning not ever gone theought the process, I don’t know how much of your PI you are required to divulge in order to sell.

I think as long as you use a different email address to register, you can open as many sock puppet accounts as you want.

In the case of this seller of the cabrio, he has had at least one previous account on BaT. I don’t know whether the previous account was also banned or not.

There is no doubt this cabrio will be re-appearing for sale elsewhere on the Internet, despite the seller saying it had been sold on Sunday. My best guess is that he “sold” the car to his house-cat.

The multi-account thing on BaT would depend on whether they use the name or billing address for the credit card as the or one of the "key" data fields.

Exactly. They collect credit card information when you list or bid, so if you could come up with an alternative for that you could essentially re-establish an account. Otherwise, if you're just setting up an account to comment you could sock puppet yourself to death, I imagine.

Interesting that you asked, @ace10.

I got a line yesterday from a reliable source, that the car is evidently being advertised, perhaps on the Facebook W124 group? In FOUR DIFFERENT groups at the same time !!

The owner/seller seems to have changed his name to one "R.D. Pelota". And I am told by knowledgeable sources, that the word "Pelota" translates to "Ball" in Spanish.

So, it appears that our friend is continuing to advertise his car in every on-line venue that it is physically possible to do so in, with the hopes of enticing an ill-informed sucker out there (probably an overseas buyer) to purchase his car, with its falsely contrived narrative.

I see that he is also continuing to strongly infer that the "restoration" of this car has been done under the supervisition and auspices of "MBNA Factory Service Centers" .... whatever that means. Of course, no mention of the flood damage and/or salvage title.

Read, and enjoy. It seems that this seller has the honesty level of Bernie Madoff, and the scruples of Charles Manson.

Here are the latest "advertisements. Perhaps Mr. Pelota would be interested in commenting here.

Well, the car started out at $65K. Now it's at $30K. So, we have what, a 54% reduction in price over the original price?

I'd say a further 60-65% reduction from current price should put this car right in the ballpark of where it needs to be. With flood damage and other problems, ~$13-14K should be just about on the money.

I wonder how it feels to him to see his $65K "bird in hand" leaking away dollar bills like a sieve.

Hopefully, eventually, he will arrive at a market-correct price, and cut the "Mercedes restored this car" lies out.

UHT did tell me that he is not a member of any social media whatsoever -- Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and so on.

Just when I think there are no longer any car sites on the Internet that this car hasn't appeared on, it pops up on a new one.

It is good to see that Pelota/Ball continues to slowly come down to earth on his pricing. $28K is a $2K reduction from his previous $30K, and definitely a far cry from his $65K past price. I figure in a couple more years, his "Pelota" will have fully deflated, and he'll arrive at a more market-correct price of $12-15K for this car.

A couple of things, from the provided description:

NOTE: Due to a past heavy rain, car received an inch of water thru lower left door sill - into the left floor pans only. Nevertheless, the car was totally rebuilt/restored by my MBNA dealer-service center.

Since when does an out-and-out FLOOD, get described as a "past heavy rain" that results in the car receiving an inch of water through the door sill? If a car has an inch of water in it, there is no question that it was sitting in AT LEAST a full foot-plus of water. Again, the scammy, squishy, lying descriptions abound with this seller. He needs to come out and say that the car is a flood car. Nonetheless, the admission that there was water entry into the car, is an improvement over his past convenient "omission" of this fact.

W/all receipts, including rare Daimler factory Compliance Certificate(2018).

Rare?!?!? Compliance? Compliance with WHAT ?!? What's so rare about paying MB the $100 or whatever, and getting a standard "Certificate of Authenticity" that essentially says that your car was made by MB on this date, has this VIN, and colors/options, etc. It's a certificate-ized data card, essentially, that costs a lot of money.

NOTE: This is NOT a warmed-over MBNA delivered base cabriolet. It was not intended for the faint-of-heart.

What's not warmed-over about this car? Standard, unmodified engine -- check. Standard, MB Sportline suspension package -- check. No AMG performance parts -- check. So it has AMG wheels, exhaust and body kit. And a hideous red "custom" interior. None of these add any performance or power to the car, as far as I know.

Boy, that suspension sure is rusty from the flood-water that this car sat in. Look at the difference in color between the doors and the rest of the body.

Sigh.

I just tonight got contacted by a new member who is interested in this car. Dude says he met with Pelota, and says he's not a bad guy in person. I guess Pelota gave him a memory stick with 7GB of photos, and the dude offered them to me (or anyone here interested). I politely declined the offer. Evidently the car has been in a front-end accident as well, from what the dude said.

Evidently the dude found this site through an Internet search, probably for this car's VIN.

We already have enough photos, and enough documentation and investigation of this car's history, on this thread for anyone out there.

I think the owner would sell the car quite quickly if he would offer it for the proper market price, which is probably around $12-14K.

At some point, Pelota will get this car priced between the $10 and $15K where it needs to be (particularly with flood damage and now, what I heard yesterday, a front end accident) so he can get it properly sold.

Yeah... this thing... Still unsold, wonder why... You know what really bothers me still, when someone is asking such out of this world premium, $60k+ for this mismatched, tri-colored red repaint, (not even taking in consideration all other issues with flood etc...).

Just got this on my Pcar daily mail. 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 Convertible AMG-Look | PCARMARKET

For a minute there I thought it was the car on this thread. It is not. Leaving it here in case someone is interested. No affiliation.

VIN WDBEA66E7SC249081
Yep ... @ace10 just noted same car.

What’s shitty about this is 5 or 10 years from now when this site is long gone and we’ve all moved on to different and better pursuits, someone’s going to pass this shitcan off as the real deal.

maw

Anyone have a Carfax account to see if it's been titled/registered somewhere else?

Hopefully this site is still around 5-10 years from now, maw! Although Gerry has been conspicuously AWOL for a while now...

The crook....ooops, I meant the seller....was originally asking $65K before he got tracked down in site after site and exposed, so at least $28k selling price and 3 years of trying to dump this on someone is a significant hit.

The best one was when he said the Meceedes Classic Center had part in the restoration and they came out and publicly denied it in writing....when have you ever seen that happen.

....oh Boca, hope some old retired guy did not get taken to the cleaners here.

Latest carfax info below ---- registered in Boca Raton, FL.
Jlaa, that is a different car, mixed in with this thread. @xfadmin might need a little force-choke for missing this.

The Baller car is a Euro gray-market import, and the VIN ( WDB1240661C063388 ) was showing invalid in Autocheck... working today though. No records since 2018.
