No affiliation but looks nice considering the mileage. Color doesn't seem common...looks like 009 sapphire black. Also looks like a limited without the correct wheels. Has bun warmers. Must resist...would risk divorce.

95 e420
009 paint was offered on the E320 and E420 in USA, but not the E500. This car appears to be one of the "special edition" late builds, note the stainless door sills as well. I believe these came with different wheels from the factory (funky 5-holers) but I'm not certain if they all did, or if the wheels were optional, or if a PO replaced them on this car at some point. This car has ASR too, if I were in the market for an 034, I'd be all over this one despite the fungal interior.

The E320 SE's also had burled walnut wood along with the (optional) 009 paint and s/s sills. I saw a late build E420 SE in the junkyard in 744 Silver. I don't know if the Special Editions were only offered in 009 & 744, like the 036 Limiteds. (??)

I think the color is special, not the ASR...
It's both. ASR was not super common on the .034 chassis. I don't know numbers, but by estimate is that less than half of them had ASR. For USA-spec cars, ASR was almost always bundled with heated seats as a 'cold weather' package, particularly from 1993-up. I've seen ASR without heated seats on 1992 models, but I don't think I've ever seen them separately from 93-up (unless it was a special order).

The 009 color is very, very rare on any 124 in the USA... possibly worldwide.

I've owned 2 93 400E's with ASR and non heated seats. I know I'm an extremely small sample but I wonder if it was a regional thing? My current 400E was originally sold here in Wilmington and lived in Jersey most of its life and my now sold again 400E was a NYC car until I got it.

Interesting! Could you send me the VIN's via PM or email? I'd like to take a look at these.

After our 95 E420 was totaled in 2013, we were shopping for a replacement, and the top requirement was ASR and heated seats. I don't remember seeing a single one without both options together, in a nationwide search over several months. It also might be that the pair of options were bundled as of the facelift (94-95 USA model years).

UPDATE: The USA sales brochures for 1992-93 do not specify if options were available separately or as packages, but were likely separate (although I still can't think of an 034 with heated seats and no ASR). The 1994 brochure showed packages along with individual options. The 1995 brochure showed heated seats and ASR only available together, as part of Package E1. At any rate, it does seem to vary by model year.

FWIW My ‘94 420, sold new in MA, has ASR and seat heaters;
My ‘94 TE, sold new in PA, ASR and heaters as well, and the ‘92 CE the same.
My parts ‘92 400 (built 10/91) sold new in CT has ASR without seat heaters.

I've seen around 15 .034s in the wrecking yards in Houston and Baltimore over the years, and I'd say that around 65% of them have had ASR (don't know about heated seats). It's a small sample, but definitely more often than not, they have had ASR.

We can get the exact number of .034s that had ASR (out of the production total) from our member @esodnehoh. Let me see if I can get this info from him.

Surprisingly, I see more than a few "pedestrian" E320s with ASR too -- a small number, perhaps 10%? But it's significant enough that there's a constant supply of ABS+ASR pumps. Of course these can be easily had from W140 models too, many more of which had ASR.

That is the exact opposite of my experience, but it may be regional.

That would be awesome, especially if he could parse it down to USA-delivered 034's. I'd love to get an export of the data into XLS if available, I'd be happy to crunch the numbers.

Lotus cc:Mail! There's a blast from the past. I remember being forced to migrate to Outlook when cc:Mail went NLA.

But nah, I'm fully in the 21st century now using Excel 2003. (Not 2013, 2003.)

I’m sure it’s easier to integrate into the 1997 website :agree:

Ill definitely get you both VINs tomorrow afternoon. Need to find the one for the car I sold.
