Hard Steering after resealed steeringpump

Hi!
After the pressure hose between the servo reservoir and the pump burst, I took the pump apart and resealed it. I also took the opportunity to replace all the pressure hoses except the one that goes to the steering gear because I couldn't get to it. I also replaced the steering tie rod and the idler arm bushing. After bleeding the servo pump, the steering is still very stiff. It's a little easier to steer when you rev it while you're rolling forward. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks!

When you took the pump apart did you make sure you reinstalled the tiny paddle wheels with the rounded sides facing the outside and square (sharp) sides facing the shaft? If they are installed backwards this will affect your power assist.

IIRC bleeding requires ten turns lock-to-lock (left/right/left) with the engine running.

Yes i have installed the paddle wheels correctly. I have also turned lock to lock several times during the bleeding. Can the steering box cause any of this problem or is the problem the steering pump? I have checked for any leaks, but can’t find any.

Are you referring to the short hose under the reservoir? That’s just a supply line that leaks on every one of our cars at some point—it’s not a pressure line. It sounds like you may have something more going on here, maybe a block somewhere in the system. What led to the line bursting? Was it operating okay before this? Pics?

Ok thanks for the clarification. The short hose had broken so the power steering oil leaked out and the pump ran dry for about 5 minutes. When i took it apart i noticed that it was wrong kind of line, it was a cooling line. So someone have changed that one earlier. The steering has been working before while driving, but sometimes when driving slowly and turning the steering could become really sluggish. I also get the feeling that there is something blocking the system. I think I'm going to try remove all the lines and blow them with compressed air.
