Headliner Replacment

I have had my 500E since September of 15, the clock is up to 207000 from the 195000 when I bought it from Cannoli and I am enjoying every mile. One item that needed attention was the headliner as the hot California sun and father time had taken their toll on the glue/foam and it was sagging a bit. I had a shop called Stitches in Kingston Wa. replace the old gray vinyl with black Alcantara and it came out beautiful! The cost was pretty reasonable at 900 bones. I will defiantly have Tony do more work for me in the future. He usually does custom interiors for hot rods and has several award winning cars under his belt. I would recommend him for anyone in the area looking for a great shop to work on their ride. Check out his Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/stitchescustomautoupholstery/.

Cheers All,

I had my headliner replaced about 5 years ago. Totally worth the cost. I paid $600 from a top-notch upholstery shop here in Houston.

do upolstery shops generally have the correct/close headliner material? Or did you source the material from somewhere?

Mine is sagging a bit in the rear...overall good condition....was going to see if a shop could lightly spray adhesive and reapply exisiting headliner....unless that is a waste of time??

My upholstery shop had everything in stock, but it's also easy for them to order it if they don't. I looked at alcantara for my E500 but ultimately decided to go with a stock-fabric replacement. I did similar for my 560SEC. Each car was $600 out the door.

A sagging headliner is ONLY going to get worse with time - once they start to let go, it doesn't take long for all of it to let go.

Best to just have a professional replace the entire thing. I did a "fix-it" myself with spray adhesive on my 560SEC many years ago - it lasted about a year or two before it became a mess. Not worth it. Professionals are always best.

Cheers,
Gerry

I had my upholstery shop renew my old headliner and reuse it with new backing. Came out looking new. Apart from the sagging on it prior to the work done, it had no stains or rips.
