I am trying to determine whether or not my new-to-me '94 E500 has the correct headlight lenses.

I have a feeling that the lenses might be for countries with RHD cars because the light beam seems to be pointing way to the left (oncomming traffic)!

These are the numbers on the glass of my Hella my lenses.

Driver's side:
04 HR 02 HC/R 02A
001 144 767 01

Passerger's side:
04 HR 04 HC/R 02A
001 144 768 01

Can anyone with a '94 E500 that has LHD Euro-spec H4/H3 Hella headlights please comfirm the numbers on your lenses?

Thanks :)

Here are photos of new E500 Euro right-hand-traffic lens labels. My car is at the track this weekend, I'll have to look at the numbers on the glass when I go up there today.

Thanks for the photos.

You said these are "right-hand-traffic". Really?!?!?! I need to confirm the part #s for LEFT Hand Drive cars, i.e. North America or Continental Europe. Is that a typo in your post?

The photo below is my existing passenger's side lens with the part # at the bottom of the glass. This is the number I need to confirm.
04 HR 04 HC/R 02A
001 144 768 01

The 500E was never produced in right-hand-drive. But right hand drive or left hand drive does not matter... what matters is which side of the road the cars drive on. USA and Canada are right-hand traffic. UK and Australia are left-hand traffic. Of course I forgot to check the numbers on the glass yesterday, d'oh... will try to remember today!

A ha......I guess I was talking about the side the steering is on and you are talking about where the car drives on the road.

It would be great if you could confirm the part #s on the lenses of your right-hand traffic lenses :)

My 94 E500 Euro lenses are:

Driver's side:
04 HR 02 HC/R 02A
001-144 767-02

Passenger's side:
02 A 02 HC/R 04 HR
001-144 768-02

No idea if yours, being 1 digit different, are correct or not. We'd need someone from the UK to share their info...

I don't have a '94 but my Hellas read:

Driver:
04HR 02HC/R 01A
001 138 325

Passenger:
01A 02HC/R 04HR
001 138 326

I've got kind of the same question about my 1991 Japanese 500E.It's been in storage for the winter season and i drove it tonight for the first time and quickly remembered how bad the headlights were.It has Euro lights that I'm trying to determine if they are designed for right hand or left hand traffic, obviously they drive on the left side of the road in Japan (We drive on the right side here) and it probably has left hand traffic headlights but I can't quite figure out all the different numbers on the housings and lenses.

When I remove the intake air duct work from the headlight housings they (The light housings) have numbers cast in the plastic and both sides start with (129) the left side is 129-851-00 the right side is 129-852-00 .The vacuum level units are there and both work fine.

The lenses have the usual cluster of numbers and letters but nothing like I've seen discussed here.
The drivers side lens has - 04 HR 02 HC/R 01 A
Also - 001-138-327
Also - 20 E1 12.5

Also - Two horizontal arrows both pointing toward the drivers fender - ----> ---->
Also - 34531 - 17111

Passengers side lens has - 01 A 02 HC/R 04 HR
Also - 001-138-328
Also - 20 E1 12.5
Also - Two horizontal arrows pointing in different directions <--- --->
Also - 17112 - 34531

I don't know if anyone has any info on what all these numbers mean but I'm trying to determine if the car has the proper lights for right hand traffic and are just aimed all wrong or if it still has the Japanese lights and they just never got changed by the previous owner when the car was brought to Canada.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Randy

Hi guys,

Got the following part numbers which I think correspond to the Hella Euro headlamp lens (chromed) but not sure if correct. Part numbers in the pics above are different from the part numbers I have, so not sure if this is due to LHD/RHD differences, but pics of the part seem to be the chromed lens, which is what I am looking to replace on my car. There seems to still be several sets available in Japan so want to snatch a set before they are all gone.

Can anyone help and confirm the the part numbers: 9AH144-863-021/9AH144-864-021?

Thanks, Bryan

Moderator edit: Hella lens numbers 9AH144-863-021 / 9AH144-864-021 appear to be correct for E500 (facelift) with LHT (left hand traffic), for Japan / UK / Australia. These are not "Euro" lenses... Japan, UK, and Australia are not in Europe and no European countries drive on the left side of the road.

Hello Bryan,

I have several sets of E500 euro lenses in my stash.

Parts numbers for the left (driver side) lens with right-hand traffic which is correct for LHD USA traffic: 124 820 57 66 (MB), 9AH 144 819 01 (Hella).

Parts numbers for the right (passenger side) lens with right-hand traffic which is correct for LHD USA traffic: 124 820 58 66 (MB), 9AH 144 820 01 (Hella).

These are the numbers on the parts label sticker. The numbers on the glass lens are identical to what GSXR posted in post #6 above.

These were sourced directly from Mercedes Germany. I don't know how these correspond to the numbers you listed, but I would assume if you are sourcing them from Japan they could possibly be for left hand traffic (RHD-style), which is why they may differ.

I am looking still for pre-facelift lenses for left hand traffic(UK,Japan),if anyone has new or used ones in good condition, please let me know.
What are the correct MB and Hella part numbers for these?

.
Here is the Euro Hella pre-facelift lenses (for 500E) for right hand traffic.

My car is LHD, though it is a Japan spec'd car. Does this mean the lenses on my car may actually be for RHD as Japan is RHD?are you looking to offload some stash, PM me with details if you are, thanks.

Hello,

I posted the pics just as an add to the discussion related to the different 036 lenses. This is my spare set, so they're not for sale, sorry. :|
