HELP NEEDED WITH REPLACEMENT HEATER BLOWER REGULATOR

The heater blower on my early 1993 500E now only works on speeds 3 and 4, and the perceived wisdom is that the heater regulator has failed.
On ripping things apart, it appears this is not situated on the heater motor, but behind the front bulkhead! (Strange!?).

The first three pics are of the existing unit, and the fourth pic is of the existing unit alongside the (only) replacement offered by MB - which does not fit due to different plugs/pins.

There are no part numbers, or manufacturer's name, on the existing unit.

Does anyone know where I might source a replacement?

Many thanks.
