Horn wiring help?

Getting a new to me, refurbbed early sport line steering wheel installed and apparently the horn isn't working. Have only had car a couple months and honestly can't recall if I have recently used the horn or not to recall if it was working when I took it in the shop. Shop said horn "noisemaker" worked fine when they ran 12 v to it, so it seems like somewhere in completing the circuit I have a wiring issue, don't believe it's any issue with the new wheel as they reinstalled the old one and said that one too isn't working. Anyone have experience with something similar or any thoughts on where I should start looking before creating new a diag wild goose chase? Note that my "old" steering wheel is a regular 300e/w124 style wheel, believe it's aftermarket, done in wood and installed by a prior owner, "new" wheel is a 500e correct, early sport line wheel with the more squared off airbag, the airbag itself that is installed I believe is out of a w140 when I looked at the part # on the back

I suspect the problem may be the horn ring since the wheel has been previously changed. Read this thread http://www.500eboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=8263 and click on the link to 2phast's site for more information. Swapping steering wheels can require changing or modifying horn rings.
