Way to roll coal, Eric!
Hey! Somebody go tell that guy in the blue shirt that Eric's car is not a park bench! Seriously!
:wtf: :smack:

hehe it just looks like he is "leaning" onto the car..i can be shure that he is NOT :)

Great photos. So 600Eric's 500E was not a 800 mile original, but a nut and bolt restoration? If so, wow!! That looked incredibly factory fresh!

I just back late last night after driving down Hwy 1 which is a great drive, but we got hung up with Sunday afternoon traffic going through Santa Barbara as expected. I'm exhausted!

I made it home safe with my 3 cars. The E60 took a rock to windshield, but glass is replaceable. The Wagyu wagon now has the 16V Getrag manual and the linkages need a bit of adjusting, but the swap was so last minute the test drive was this trip.

It was great to see Gerry, Kip, Ricardo, and Albert. I am fortunate to have a lot of friends aka Team Stupid to help me organize, prepare, and drive the cars to the event. I will update with some pictures once I get a bit more organized.

A quick review

600Eric - Best in Marque for Mercedes Benz

Class 6 - 1972-1996 Modern Sedan,Coupe,Station Wagon

1st - Kip Finch, 1992 500E

2nd - Jeff Wong, 1996 AMG E60

3rd - Andy Chan, 1977 Mercedes-Benz 230 W123

Class 7 - Performance Motorsports, Modified or tuner cars, 1996 or earlier

1st - Giuliano Fiumani, 1963Mercedes-Benz 220 SE

2nd - Jeff Wong, 1986 190E 2.3-16

3rd - Jeff Wong, 1995 E320 Estate

Albert's blue 500E was looking great on the grass as well in Class 7!!

On a side note, my good friend Bob Brumfiel from Quantum Restorations, largely responsible for my Class 7 16V build, received 2nd Place for his restored BMW E9 coupe. First place for the BMW E9 coupe class went to another friend of mine Michael Burger. Congrats to Bob and Michael, these 2 cars are the finest examples of the E9s!

As always great trip and event and it was really fun having some board members with us as well this year as meeting some others at the show. Also thank you all very much for the compliments and kind words. The restoration of my car was a long an arduous journey but it paid off as it received a lot of praise from both spectators and the judges alike.

Here are a few more pictures of the trip home down Highway 1 through Big Sur

Also unlike Captruff and the rest of the team in lieu of powering straight through I stopped in Solvang on the way home Sunday and spent the night. So of course when in wine country it just made sense to hit a winery...

Lastly for all the MBCA members on the board please keep an eye out in our mail for the next issue of Star Magazine. Call it a hunch but I think there might be a good article about a 500E

HUGE congrats Eric. If I recall correctly, the restoration of your car was almost completed at around this time last year. So, what did you do with you car over this past year? Did you drive it at all? Do any additional work on it? Or, essentially just parked with a cover over it?

A little bit of #1 and #2 but mostly #3. It was very close last year but too close for comfort. Also it was determined that jumping in a car that had just been completely disassembled and reassembled and taking about a 1000 mile road trip might not be the brightest idea. Therefore when I got back I started taking it on some shake down runs staying in Orange County which ended up consisting of a few hundred miles over the last year. Although nothing really significant came up we did find some minor things to correct or adjust. After that the cover pretty much went back on it until last week. The good news is it ran very strong on the trip up and back and I think it really needed that for the car really to more or less "break in" again for lack of a better term. The only real issue that came up on the trip was with the sound system. Out of nowhere the front left dash and door speakers started making funny (i.e. bad) noises. So I am going to pull it back out this weekend and send it back to Becker as I think either the head unit or the receiver has something going on with it. Other than that I could not be happier with the car.
