Having done a very similar process for some W210 models and the E60 BaT auction that popped up, I figured might as well do it for the W124 E60 957 vehicles. I tried creating it in a similar format to the 957+958 thread.

Below are exterior colors sorted from lowest production number: *There might be color names that are inaccurate, feel free to correct.*

Could a moderator please edit the initial post and add WDB1240361B734480? Originally I had worked backwards and stopped at a certain point assuming there wouldn't be any more however this car also has the 957 code which I assume was added later. From my understanding this is a "full" pre-facelift model meaning no 855 code (old body but new tech).

Interesting notes on this one! The 6-piston front brakes are from a CLK63, ditto for the 4-piston rears! And it has 2.65 diff for higher vMax as well (vs 2.82 stock gearing)... with Wavetrac ATB/LSD!

Nice catch! I didn't even check.

Seen this on a few vehicles, but its pretty rare. Most conversions did not include a data card update, which I never understood why.
I assumed maybe it's because only engines were converted and perhaps the entire 957 AMG Package didn't apply? It would be interesting to know how it was distinguished to update the datacard.

Wasn’t Code 957 just the engine? The suspension and wheels were under Code 786, no? What do you mean by “entire AMG package” @WDB748372?

I was also referring to it in terms of the 210 chassis too. It seems 957 could be added to the datacard during production or after but if it's after maybe the car needed to be a certain spec. So what I meant is in the case of a 210, WDB2102721A456209 was an Elegance trim (955) without rolled fenders (774) and was converted to an E60 but 957 was not added. Now since all E50 AMGs were an Avantgarde with rolled fenders maybe it needed those options too. My wagon had both options so perhaps explains why it was added 957.

That was my thinking but as I typed all but here's one 957 & Elegance WDB2100721A456377. Could just be an outlier as it's the only one.
Edit: To add more to the confusion, here is another E60 estate WDB2102721A366764 that did have 954/774 but no 957

I suppose it’s just unclear to me how it was determined since I can’t seem to spot a pattern.
There could have been a factory car, one that was added it later in the case of WDB1240361B734480 but apparently not for WDB2102721A456209.

AFAIK, for the factory-delivered W124 E60 AMG, all with code 957 also had the suspension - don't think it was possible to buy an E60 without the suspension. However, I haven't gone through all the datacards to see if all had code 786 or not. And, it's difficult if not impossible to verify which ones were factory E60, vs which were converted post-delivery...

I have some old German MB price lists from 1994 where the E60 is listed as its own car. However the sport suspension together with the 17" Aero 3 is listed as an individual line item under 786......I'll snap a picture of that section of the price list later on today and post it here.

50/149 had 786. I think VeDoc shows the sa code history if any changes were made. WDB1240361B734480 (non 786) would have 957 added and hopefully can be seen in VeDoc. Comparing that to WDB1240361B972077 (786) which should not have any datacard changes assuming the 957 & 786 combo were the factory cars that didn't go through a conversion.

This makes sense - I think. A full E60 car came with the engine + suspension. But, you could order the suspension/wheels separately? Hmmm.

BTW, it may be easier to focus on chassis after WDB1240361C03xxxx, which were all facelift (E500 / E60) as of C020765. I'd expect most/all pre-facelift cars were conversions post-delivery. (Right?) Chassis between B891779-C020763 needed to have code 859 to be factory facelift/MOPF2. And, prior to B891779 should all be non-facelift (500E) and without code 859.

Let me look tonight. If I recall correctly though, 786 is listed as an available optional item for only the E60 and no other model

"The AMG technology package (code 957) only included the engine conversion. All other possible modifications such as rims / exhaust etc. were optional. This means that the 6.0 is 100% identical (except for the engine) to the 500; it is therefore a 124.036 with equipment code 957. The same short rear axle ratio (2.82:1) enables a Vmax (limited) of 250 km/h, open only 260 km/h (rev limiter). A different rear axle gearbox was available as an option (2.65:1 (standard for Switzerland, for example); 2.47:1 and 2.24:1) - however, this significantly worsened the acceleration and changes to the engine

All genuine E60`s, 957 is in Birth Certificate.

Per the German 1993 MB price list, 786 was an optional item that was available for both, E500 and E60. It carried an eye watering surcharge of 12,500 DM, or 7% of the purchase price of a standard E60 and 8.6% of a standard E500

Hagerty should have read this thread before publishing their article.

Here it is:

Hi all. I can not understand why do some cars have E60 in Data type and card, and others E500
I have two cars with numbers: 035946 and 194782.
As I see this cars have 957 code and all possible units of AMG
Maybe I missed the answer to this question above. I apologize in advance.

Nobody seems to know the answer (it could be listed as E500, 500E, E60 AMG, E60 or AMG 500E 6.0). The important thing is that your both VIN numbers have the 957 code (listed as #18 and #87 on the list at top of this thread).

The zeroth E60 in the list (WDB1240361B734480) was clearly added SA code 957 to the datacard as discussed before.

Randomly came across the car the engine originated from: WDB1400501A208240
Vehicle scrapped, engine installed in chassis W1240361B734480 [WDB1240361B734480] Vehicle converted with code 957 before shipping

How you do your searches? Vedoc? Guess you went via engine number search?
Interesting and well documented car for sure.
I get all the info from EPC. Similar to when you enter a VIN in EPC and it shows users a datacard, I essentially connect to the databases that contain that info.
In this example I didn't search the engine number but I searched the V8/V12 140 chassis (050, 051, 056, 057, 070, 076) for any 957/990 codes to see if I can differentiate an AMG model based on the datacard but only got back 2 VINs. When decoding the VINs I noticed the note on the vehicle being scrapped but the engine being used on a 036.

OK, I did all the research in vedoc.
Doesn't VeDoc require some active license? I just launched the Xentry software but it couldn't even launch VeDoc once I provided some VIN. Maybe it was never setup correctly.
I'd be curious to try that as it seems like VeDoc has more info. I recall some W210 E55 VIN that had all the SA codes removed, paint code, and maybe some more stuff. When seen in VeDoc it was noted stolen.

You will get access only as a employee of a dealership or manufacturer environment
plus there are authorization depending access levels.
So you basically take the epc/parts catalogue database to explore?
Usually updates to data cards would reflect after around 3 months in the parts catalogue. Maybe got quicker since the last year or so since I changed to the other Stuttgart based brand.

Sounds like I won't ever be accessing that then.

Correct. I'm pretty sure that's what all these online VIN decoders are doing too. Make a website out of it and run ads.

I'm guessing each with their own copy of EPC whether native to an OS or on a VM would never see those updates? We probably have a snapshot of EPC depending which version was cloned?

I've found WDB1240361C157805 and I am confused because it doesn't have 957 but it shows "E60". Does anybody know what kind of modification this E60 should have?
