Little triangle between mirror and car

Along with everything else like back window, some trunk and door stop rubbers and whatever they could find that's not like new I put new ones on because the old ones don't look new.
All OEM MB/

The little triangles came in pretty light grey, were they like that new, are all the pics just Armoral-ed black?
Can they be painted, not sure if they can match 20 year old paint...

Your not going to be able to paint flexible rubber and make it look good without it cracking and flaking off. When new, these "boots" have something on them to protect the rubber. Take some Simple Green and clean them up and then apply some rubber protectant. They will end up looking nice and black when your done.

Ditto what Rik said above. DO NOT paint them!! Use a quality rubber protectant. I think Jono likes Wurth products, if you can find them. I generally use Formula 303 on all rubber/vinyl/plastic items which get sun exposure. Don't use Armor-All.

:pc1:

Soak them in 303 Aerospace Protectant for a couple of days to really get them good and supple, and protected. Or buy new ones from MB. THey are well over $300 apiece, last I heard.

Gerry, these are the $300.00 ones ;-)
I love the car enough that I get sucked in and put some money in it.

Cars' getting pretty much a full refresh, I'll post a list somewhere on these pages when I'm done.
Thanks guys, no armour all, just keep soaking in Formula 303 it is.

Oh I see ... yes they come sort of a light- to medium gray color. Soak them in 303 as I said and they will darken up. And treat them quarterly in 303 to preserve them as best you can.

I am so thankful I ordered a new pair for my E500 a few years ago when they were only in the $120 range, each.... even at that time I thought the price was highway robbery.

Thanks for the tips. I had my car re-painted and now the triangles are obviously having a different shade compared to the car's body. I might buy one of the suggested products here.

You can't go wrong with the 303, and it will protect them from UV radiation. Just remember to spray and wipe them with 303 quarterly when maintaining your car, and you should be good for many years to come.

They will always be a different color than the body, that is normal. They are a dark charcoal (nearly black) when new. If they are still soft-ish, try one of the rubber treatments mentioned and see if that helps.

Can someone drop me the part number for just the rubber triangle? Cant seen to find it on the parts sites without having to buy the whole mirror piece as the dealer says. I must be looking right past it.

1248110161 I think I found it is that the right part number for Left (D/S)?

Thanks in advance

That is correct. More information is at this thread... hope you are sitting down when you see the prices:

I just received both left and right side rubber mirror caps from Husker Auto Group in Lincoln, NE for $175.05 via FedEx Priority. That works out to $81.90 each plus $11.25 for shipping and no sales tax. Seems like a great deal.

Get 'em while they're hot...

124-811-04-61 right

Seems like a great deal, indeed. Are they black or the gray color mentioned earlier in this thread?

There is only one color. Looks gray-ish out of the package, will turn blacker after you squirt some Formula 303 or other rubber-friendly protectant on it.

Man, I'm glad I got them when they were discounted! They're up to $194 each now.

in less than a year, husker's prices increased nearly 250%!!

1248110161 now listed @ $197.54
1248110461 now listed at $193.97

i thought i stumbled onto something with MB of South Atlanta listing #0161 for $140. problem is #0461 is $262!!! crazy discrepancy.

any other known sources at the moment?

It's not the dealers... MB USA changes prices frequently - every month at least some parts will change price, and once or twice per year MB does a mass price change on almost all parts (usually January 1).

The price for the mirror boots dropped dramatically in early 2015, but only for a few months. The link back in post #12 has price history on these. Please read this post:

Do any of you folks have a 3-D printer? I wonder if it would be possible to have these 'printed' for us. Is that even legal? I could use 1 set right now on the sedan and another set on the shelf for the coupe!

Do 3D printers make flexible stuff? Like, really flexible? The mirror boots need to stretch quite a bit for installation.

Michael was looking into duplicating them with a silicone material.

today's prices, May 10th, 16; @ Parts.com
1248110161 now listed @ $80.50 (MSRP $140)
1248110461 now listed at $136.85 (MSRP $238)

for a coupe ** Ouch
1061 - $805.00
1161 - $88.55

I've emailed Speed Autoteile for euro pricing on these parts as well

If these are REALLY available from MB at this price, I would order a set (and perhaps a spare set) ASAP. Large price drops by MB are often a precursor to permanent "NLA" status.

I would be amenable to purchasing up to 5 sets of mirror boots (if cheaper in Europe) and bringing them home with my luggage. I could also be persuaded to bring home a set or two of 500E "Euro" headlight lenses, if someone has a DIRE need for a set. I'm heading to Germany on June 14th and will be back on July 2nd.

This is probably the most overpriced part on a W124 right now.. all that money for a f'ing rubber triangle!

Note: W124 Coupe triangles are different from the 4 door...

Speed Autoteile Quote for mirror boots, using today's exchange rates

Source.............................................. Germany ........ Parts.com.....

92 500E - WDBEA36E1NB806186
124 811 01 61 – Left Mirror Cap 109,25 Euro = $124; Parts.com = $ 81
124 811 04 61 – Righ Mirror Cap 107,15 Euro = $122; Parts.com = $137
Total price...............................................$246; .................$218

92 300CE - WDBEA51D9NB605078
124 811 10 61 – Left Mirror Cap 715,00 Euro = $813; Parts.com = $805
124 811 11 61 – Right Mirror Cap 69,00 Euro = $ 78 ; Parts.com = $ 89
Total price...............................................$891; .................$894

Using today's pricing, as you can see there is no price advantage with the German vendor on these parts, shipping is not included for either prices as well.
With shipping the nod most certainly will go to Parts.com..

Get'm while there hot, just ordered a set for the 500E... I can't bring myself to even consider the CE replacements, just crazy... kinda gives a parts car a little higher status...

PS: Just jumped over to Amazon, 303 on the way, that's all the CE is going to get for now...

The coupé left mirror cap, 124-811-10-61, is showing at €60 excluding VAT at MB Classic in Germany. Something is fishy with the pricing on that one:

http://partssearch.mercedes-benz-classic.com/parts/A1248111061

USA pricing for 124-811-10-61 is indeed currently $1400 USD, which smells more like a typo to me than reality. Probably some accountant will be wondering a year from now, "why aren't we selling any of these anymore?" As of late 2013, both left & right were $125 list.

Outrbnks, unless there is a huge difference in the Euro price, it generally isn't worth buying from Germany as the cost of shipping kills any savings. The main items we are forced to buy from Germany are the verboten, comm-blocked parts like Euro headlights/lenses. Once in a blue moon there is a major price difference (lower in Europe) but it's not common.

:spend:

Like I said, now is the best time to get these boots. We've not seen them this cheap for years, and it seems that most of the Eastern European ladies who squish them out have either died off or have retired....

I actually ordered 2 sets from Parts.com, the inquiry to Germany was mostly to verify the CE drivers boot price, I really thought there would be a difference.

So I finalized the order with Speed Autoteile for the headlights/lenses only, and Parts.com got the headlight filler panels and mirror boots order.

Still hoping that your right about that $1400 part being a typo, but two similar prices in two different countries kinda says it all. I'd buy a CE parts car before I'd pay that for a boot at that price.

I wonder if the Mercedes Classic Center would have more info on that CE boot, think I'll contact them tomorrow. Thanks again...O
