Not sure which is better, the markings on that beautiful cat or those stagger wheels!!
In fear of getting in trouble with Nora the cat,,i have to say both 🤩 :ROFLMAO:Jokes aside...The 3piece aeros are indeed my favourite /dream wheels on a 036 car...( and a c126 car for that matter...)...so they are deffo beauties. But Nora is the precious one :hearts:

We are blessed with 3 feline specimens: A male Orange Tabby who is about 18lbs - large male alpha cat, a petite lady, a slight female tuxedo kitty - aptly named Ginger and Boba (I preferred Harry and Megan but my daughter thought otherwise) The third is a project found abandoned at 3 weeks. Daughter nursed Stuart (little) with a bottle from the vet against all odds, spars daily with his 12 pound heavier Alpha - Ginger. Lots of fun.

@lowman,
Stephan, I love the 18” Monoblocks off of the E55 but can’t and won’t pay what they are going for. When you get rid of the gold paint they will look a lot better and IMOP you will like them a lot more. The Gold clashes with your car’s beautiful color scheme. Silver is my favorite but that’s up to you.

Choose Wisely🙂

Carefull now...its an E50 ;) Not a "generic E55 " . "Giggles ;) But thank you .I like those 18inch monoblocks aswell...And when it comes to the aero3"s...i have come to the same conclusion. The gold is kinda nice...but it screams to much . I am debating doing the centers up in the same color as the grey color of the sacco panels/bumpers...? what do you think?

I’m completely smitten by the 16” 8-holers now. I love the look, and the ride.

I thought I’d be over them quickly, but when I replaced them for my Evos I missed them immediately. Love the stealthy restrained look of it all.
16" is an ideal diameter for standard 124 (400E/E420, etc). They fill out the fenders nicely and look sharp.

On the 500E though... the wider, larger-diameter fender openings make the stock 16x8.0 wheels look small and narrow. Even the Evos are a bit narrow in the 036 fenders...

:seesaw:

me to mate...100 percent . For me it is very much about what they remind me of. They remind me of when i saw the 500e"s the first time in the car magazines back in the day...and i used to love the look of those wheels. So these days,,,,they just take me back to those days. Appart from that...i really like the design,,as they are somewhat an identifier of this era Mercedes :)

Those are super nice. Are the rear wheel centers bolted on to some custom barrels to achieve that stance / poke / offset?

Personally if you are going to go through the effort of changing the color of the wheel centers (both the lower Sacco panel color and the upper silver color would be great), then I would consider redoing the lips/barrels in anodized aluminum. It will be less shiny than the polished look and match the discreet nature of the car better.

Thank you so much ,mister J :) I do think the same as you for sure...something does not look right with the width of the wheels in the rear. Previous owner had them on a R107, and they are "refurbished"...But i have yet to measure the wheels. So I have a feeling the outer lip is wider. Updates incoming as we go along :)
Also i agree alot on the center color...i do lean towards having them that darker grey color, but then again..."plain silver"..is very universal and might be easily used on a say "potential c126 in the near future" :)

definitely silver and yes stunning on a c126. I have Lorinser RS90x17 in silver on my 199 C126 and they look very nice with Eibach springs. The gold is more audacious for a wolf in sheep;s clothing (though the powertrain matches better than a c126)

I've gone from the standard 8 holes, to 18" AMG Monoblocs, and now back to EVOs!

The EVOs are, IMO, the nicest - and to overcome your comment that they may be "a bit narrow for the 036 fenders", I've overcome this by fitting 12mm spacers (forgive me, I know you're not the biggest fan of spacers!?).

Good note on Evos needing a bit of a bump out to fully fit flush against the fenders. Out of curiosity, what brand spacers do you have fitted?

It's been some while since I bought them (I used them when I was running both the original 8 hole, and the 18" Monoblocs!) , but my records show I got them from:-

Well made, and never had any issues with them.

I have found that I genuinely prefer the original look myself as well; I've always loved monoblocks, but on the 500s the original 8-holes just make the whole car look purposefully mean in a way larger rims simply don't manage to copy. I even prefer the 8-holes over the EVOs on the Limited cars.

Agreed. My previous 500e ,had Evo2 (genuine painted Evo2 vwheels)heels on when i bought it. they were ok,i never fell in love with them. I even dont like them on the 190e"s. hehe. But yes...the 8hole wheels are just pure gold. :)

Got myself another new steering wheel two days ago
A sportline wheel. Local seller, and a steal of a deal.
Restored it yesterday with proper leather paint.
Turned out not flawless, but miles better.

ITs a sad day today... :(
Yesterday this knocking sound appeared out of nowhere
Its a very " dull dubbed /thumping sound coming from the underside of the car.
ITs worse when in reverse and so it makes me think it has to do with either flexplate or converter...most because of the rytmic frequency of the knock...as its very "slow/countable"
This only happens after a little minute after cold startup,,,(in reverse and drive for the most part),and can not be replicated when engine is getting passed cold start.
There is no sounds from engine or transmission otherwise....and it does not appear if i apply throttle when the sound is there at idle...

what do we think?
Cracked flexplate?converter? or worse ...like rod/piston slap....I really dont feel it is a rod piston kinda sound,,as the sound is not there when revving the engine whilst there....it rather goes away when revs going up....and driving...

My initial thoughts based on your description and video. It is not anything internal to the engine. I'm not experienced enough to rule out transmission converter or flex plate, but I don't think so. It could be something as simple as engine or transmission mounts which smooths out after the engine warms.

Thanx for input. Well..the engine mounts are new..and the rear mount is in perfect condition. I have to say i am super confused what to think.I cannot believe it should be anything engine internal wise..as the car always had a good service life,,and the last 7 years even better service life. If it was a rod bearing or piston related failure..i would expect from experience, to be able to replicate it even when the engine is warm,,and playing around with engine load etc...and with the transmission out job recently...i did have the flexplate off,,and when tightening it back to the crank, it was hard to lock the flexplate when tightening the bolts..so it might have gotten a "kink" in it, and its now " snapped":..I really dont know what is common or not?...

sounds like a fan blade or something in the way of the belt travel or a stick or other shop detritus stuck near a moving part.

Or more esoteric, a rodent got into your HVAC system and got caught in the fan motor, dropped a seed or nut in there or worse, plastic bits broke on the carcass and its grinding. (I have had this when I first got the 91 sec after it sat for 3 months by PO.

thank you :) I wish this was as simple as that...but i am afraid not :)

Wonderful. So was it a bad relay, bad LH, or bad pump(s)? Good sleuthing.....btw
The cause for the knocking sound is pressure waves in the fuel lines, caused by the fuel pump relay switching on and off.And that again is 99.9 percent caused by the capacitors in the LH unit.
So a new LH unit is on the way, but i also will repair the Lh unit in my car. I will make a follow up video of this aswell 🙂

So we are on 🤩
I found a local guy ,that does electronics.
So my LH unit is in the best hands.
He had all proper capacitors in stock..so i am thrilled that this repair is going to be smooth sailing.. for once 😍🤩
He tested the capacitors there and then, and they were indeed past the finish line 😆🤩

Got my spare LH unit today.
Its from a w140 500se, 94 year.
Im aware of no WOT ..but..
Am i right in feeling it might make the 500e run smoother? Or is it a placebo effect.
Havent driven it alot with this LH, but it does feel
a tad different....
