Metal ticking noise at cold start from driveline ? under the rear seat

When i start the cold engine and after the RPM drop below 900, there is a metal ticking noise from driveline ?? or other ( i am not sure ) exactly under the rear seat.
Please note this occurs only below 900 RPM and when the engine is cold. I don t know if connected but also i found out a ticking relay under the rear right cushion, the green one 001 542 9619, when the engine is cold again.
After the engine gets warmer it disappeared.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Your LH module has failed, as Bing mentioned. The thread linked above has all the info. Replacing the relay won't fix it...

Thanks, will check that out. The thing is that i hear 2 separate and uncomfortable noises, not sure if connection in between:

1. like metal slamming under the car and rear seat, like exhaust detached or vibrating in the chassis ( i checked that - OK, not sure for the catalyst if can do that);

2. ticking relay under the rear right cushion.

Both present when car is cold and disappeared when warmer.

Will look for the LH module.

All the best.

I'm not sure about #1, but the #2 ticking under the right rear cushion is caused by the LH module failing.

We'd need more info to help with #1. A video clip of the noise would help...

Thanks
Will keep it posted here and will try to upload a video.

In the meantime someone selling LH module?

Hi colleagues,
update:

The engine started misfiring, no difference if cold or warm, feels like clogged, smells like gunpowder from the exhaust :), if high RPM then it OK, today i changed the LH module with W140 5.0 8 cyl 1992 and cleared codes 11 & 22 from pin 4, no other codes present. It seems that the fuel relay is not clicking anymore like GSXR said . Thanks again for that.
What else can i look for with these codes 11, 22 from #4?
I also checked the upper engine harness, it is 2006 on the sticker, the caps and rotors seem fine.
Tomorrow i plan to change the plugs (think they have 50000km +++ on) and did order new oxygen sensor Bosch.
Thanks and all the best.

Guys,

I changed the plugs (Bosch), distributor caps & rotors (Bosch), cables look fine, front O2 sensor Bosch ( wasn t fun because had to cut the wires and hard to remove it from the exhaust ).
85 % of the symptoms disappeared but i still get code 11 from module 4, can you please help me out how to locate & change this solenoid valve?

What bothers me is that i still get light "coughing" from low RPM s like 1st, 2nd gear, rough idling, observed at stops, traffic lights, especially on reverse gear which very strange for me.
At this time the RPM s & oil pressure gauge among as the lights on the dashboard and probably outside are trembling...

The only error i got is code 11 @ pin 4.

Thanks and all the best!

Code 11 is the air pump above the alternator. The wire goes from the air pump, behind the passenger side headlight, and plugs into the harness near the fender. It's almost impossible to access this connection without removing the headlight. I'd pull the headlight, disconnect the plug, and measure the resistance of the wire to the pump... should be a couple ohms. If it's zero or infinite, the pump coil (or wire) is bad. This should have nothing to do with the "coughing" problem.

With your new O2 sensor, you need to reset the LH adaptation... see if that helps the "coughing" problem.

Today i went to MB specialist :) :) who did scan it digitally:

011 AIR relay module K17 - they think this is causing the rough idle and misfire and "coughing", paid 100$ for 3 min. job...

Other sensor i got:
017 Crankshaft position sensor L5 but i am 100 % sure my transmission is like new so i disregard it.

Will try to check what is behind that passenger light! :)

The crankshaft position sensor is not related to the transmission, but rather the ignition. That to me would be a major potential problem warning sign that requires further investigation. Basically if this sensor is bad, then the computer doesn't know where in the combustion cycle that the engine is. It is located adjacent to the transmission bell housing, but it is NOT part of the transmission itself.

I think you need to do more investigation around this.

The air injection is more of an annoyance, but isn't going to really affect how the engine runs. It's an emissions related thing.

code 11 for the air pump will not cause misfiring or coughing. If the shop is telling you that, they are either lying, or incompetent...

Not easy access down there but will try my best. Have ordered one from ebay. Will change it at the same time with the rebuilt injectors.

Sorry, i mixed the topic a bit here - because i started from the "metal noise" from back and finished with the sensor stuff

but this was what happened to me...

If the administrators want they can move this tread somewhere else.

U thought code 17 and 18 meant a bad cps? 17 by itself is airgap or Missing magnet on the flex disc.
My running problems have been replacing cos and transpressure switch.
