Mobil 1 extended life 10W-60

Re: Mobil 1 extended life

No idea - we don't get that variety of M-1 offered in the USA. Also not sure if it's a true synthetic (Group IV/V) or a fake synthetic (Group III) like most of the Mobil-1 product line in the USA these days. :(

I personally wouldn't use 0W-30 in my M119 in any climate (Swiss or otherwise) and I wouldn't recommend 0W-40 either. The water-thin oils are for fuel economy, not protection nor engine longevity. They're not needed for cold climates either, even a 'thick' synthetic (i.e., 20W-50) will flow just fine in sub-zero temps. Apparently you can't get anything thicker from Mobil-1 in the UK... so I'd switch brands, IIWY. But that's a different discussion altogether...

:wormhole:

I haven't used it but it sounds like Mobil is trying to get into the BMW M market as BMW/Castrol TWS 10W-60 full synthetic is the factory recommended oil for E39 M5's and E46 M3's. Although, BMW also specifies BMW 10W-30 full-synthetic for E39 M5's built after March 2001. (for the U.S. market)

As far as Group III vs Group IV base stocks are concerned, as long as your oil change interval "matches" the type of base, I wouldn't worry about it. For G III oils, change at 5000 miles or less. With G IV oils, you can do extended intervals.

So, for this new M1 10W-60, do some research and determine what base stocks they use and set your oil change interval accordingly.

As Glen say ,, most S-engine from BMW ((M///POWER)) use 10-60 TSW or Castrol
i use 10-60 Castrol also ,, but this oil cost A LOT compared to other similair

FYI: BMW M devision do not recommend the Castrol RS 10W60 Grade anymore, due to issue with cold starts in very low ambient temperatures. But for London, I don't think there should be any issues.

a 10W60 would be ideal in our country, to bad the main Mobil distributor is too daft to understand the meaning of oil grades after all these years. I still struggle to get them to order the 15w50 Grade.

Right, Castrol RS is not the same as TWS even though they are the same weight grades.

So this brand , Mobil 1 10W60 would would be ideal for uk or are there any other brands which are not overpriced?

Glen/Dave, what brand/grade/viscosity do u guys use in the US ?

I usually use Mobil 1, 15W-50. But, I don't put too many miles on my car and generally change the oil based on time rather than miles.

I've been using Mobil-1 5W-40, mostly because it's still a Group IV/V base stock, and is relatively inexpensive (~$23/gal at Wal-Mart). I stopped using the 15W-50 because it appears to be a Group III base stock; although as Glen said, this is not a big deal if you change your oil every 3-5kmi under normal service conditions.

I am leaning towards switching to Red Line 10W-40 when my supply of the M-1 5W-40 runs out, but this stuff is more expensive (~$32/gal).

In general you want to use an xW-40 or xW-50 in the E500E, and preferably not where X=zero. :D

No.. but i dont think the difference is something to worry about

afair McLaren F1 use Castrol RS 10-60 and NOTHING ELSE

all B10 BT use also Castrol 10-60 ,, recommended because of high temp at VERY HIGH SPEED

Depending on your demographics, consumers of M-1 5W-40 may want to stock up on this stuff while you can. :sicker:

I just bought the last 2 jugs of M-1 5W-40 off the shelf after checking in on 2 Walmarts. Normally an automatic restock upon depletion, some Walmarts are no longer replenishing this stock. An automotive sales manager confirms shelf space is all based on stock turn targets...slow moving items get dropped in favor of other products with higher turnover rates; especially in today's economic climate. :flush:
