Need help don't know where to turn 1993 300E

If he doesn’t have ASR couldn’t he use a differential from a 300CE with the M104.981? I think that is the same housing as the 400E. He would just need to swap the 3 arm yoke with the 4 arm. Maybe uses the same axles so the flanges would be a direct bolt up. The ratio in that is a 3:06. My 92 W140 400SE had the 2:82 ratio and that car ran really strong even with the additional weight.

My 400e is non-asr. I definitely do want to swap it.

Trying to decide what ratio for daily driver. Need to maintain some level of practicality.

Also I don’t really like the idea of yellow box thingy, seems shoddy. Can I just change odometer gears?

Also I rarely see old mbs in the junkyard anymore so not sure ever to look.

Yup! The 2.65 and 2.82 are bolt-ins with less hassle. 2.65 is available with zero changes except swapping the ABS sensor, 2.82 requires swapping the rear cover. 3.06 requires swapping the input flange also, as you noted... which requires extreme care to not over-torque the internal crush sleeve. I think the output flanges might also need to be swapped, but I'm not positive - could be M10 vs M12 bolts?

2.65 if you'd like to keep freeway RPM's down, and/or cruise at high speed often
2.82 is a nice compromise
3.06 for maximum ooomph from a stop, with not much high speed freeway driving

Nope. The electronic speedometer has different sections... yes you can change odometer gears, but then the speedometer will be wrong. YellowBox is the simple, accurate solution. It can be adjusted to a fraction of a percentage accuracy. I've used this on a couple of cars with no issues.

Order from a salvage yard after locating what you need via car-part.com.
