Need help - How to "upgrade" Becker 1432 wiring to later ISO Headunits

Hello and greetings from Germany :-)

my early .36 from '90 had the 2-Block devices (BE 1432 Headunit in front, and tuner/amplifier in the trunk)

I want to upgrade to f.e. Becker Cascade (with BT and GPS-Navigation) or Becker Indianapolis - Both devices with DIN / ISO 10487 plug.

In future I want to listen music with my mobile phone (spotify) and connect it via Bluetooth or AUX (adapter cable plug into CD-Changer-Socket)

Also I want to add a flat subwoofer in the trunk.

Question:

1. should I buy a 8-pin socket, connect it with the cable (which goes to tuner/amplifier in trunk) and create adapter (to get rear speaker signals and antenna) and pin it to ISO 10487 socket ?

2. Or should I change the complete radio system wiring in the car ? (so I must remove seats and carpet right :-/ ?!)
--> So I would buy a stock speakers wiring from later W124 Models (for example part no.: A1248209115)

3. Its possible to get rear speaker signals from fader-switch-socket to headunit ?

3. Or is there an easier way to get newer headunits running in my car ?

Sorry for my bad english

Thank you very much !
Best regards !

Welcome! Just for clarity's sake for everyone reading, this is the ISO10487 plug.

That I think is something that could be explored and might work but it would be a huge headache and not worth it. If I understand correctly, you are trying to avoid pulling up the carpet. Therefore, you are trying to keep the existing 8-pin cabling under the carpet. On the dashboard end of the 8 pin wiring, you are trying to determine L (+/-) and R (+/-) signal .... and then also determine what is L (+/-) and R (+/-) signal at the trunk-end of the wiring too correct? However, if you go with this approach, you must use amplifiers in the rear to power the speakers again because the existing 8-pin wiring is only for line-level current, and not for speaker-level current....

2. Or should I change the complete radio system wiring in the car ? (so I must remove seats and carpet right :-/ ?!)

--> So I would buy a stock speakers wiring from later W124 Models (for example part no.: A1248209115)

This would be easier ...

Perhaps an even more basic question is ---- WHY do you want to put in a new headunit for your car?

--> If you want to put in a newer headunit for new features GPS / sound quality / etc ---- then it is best to rip up all the old wiring.
--> If you just want to get bluetooth from your Becker 1432, then this is possible without replacing the headunit. Look here --> https://www.500eboard.com/forums/showthread.php?t=4758&p=137962&viewfull=1#post137962

You could probably even add a subwoofer this way by using speaker-level-input-subwoofer type products .... reusing the BE1432 would not be the BEST sounding system, but it would be better than stock BE1432 with no bluetooth and no subwoofer.
BTW, cassettes rule, as do un-ripped paper-cone-speakers. :-) :-)

Re: Need help: How to "upgrade" Becker 1432 wiring to later ISO Headunits

Search this forum for info on upgrading the 1432 head unit. To date, nobody has found an easy way to replace the 1432 with any other head unit, while retaining the factory amplifiers & wiring. There's no adapter I'm aware of. You generally have to re-wire everything in a car that came with the 1432 setup if you want a newer head unit, possibly sacrificing sound quality in exchange for convenience of Bluetooth and Spotify.

As mentioned in #2 in your list, yes, you can completely change everything to the late-model 1492 setup... wiring harness, amplifiers, antenna leads, etc. This DOES allow plug+play upgrade to newer Becker head units, but as you stated you must remove the seats, carpet, center console, front door panels, and whatever else is needed to thread the new harness everywhere. I personally think this is the best option, but it's a LOT of work. I plan to do this to one of my 1432 cars in the future...

Thank you all for replies !

I have forgotten to say that I dont have active-soundsystem on my .036 ! Its only 2 Front and 2 Rear speakers in there. There are NO speakers in front doors for bass !

My question is: Soundquality is better on the old 1432 or its better sound quality with later/newer becker head units (for example Becker Cascade,...) ?

Jlaa - Very nice Bluetooth upgrade ! I didnt even know that this is possible to this model. Maybe I will try it this way ! Thats a great solution ! instead of the mx3192 I must buy the M-Bus Emulator right ?

Thank you very much !

Interesting... I didn't think any 1432 head unit was used without front door speakers. I had thought those systems used a different head unit. In USA, all E500E's received the same sound systems for a given model year, so we generally aren't familiar with the other setups offered outside USA.

The sound quality from a CD changer input on the 1432 is quite good, and probably similar to the newer head units. The main thing you are getting is in-dash CD along with the ability to have modern sources (iPod, etc), plus a volume knob instead of that stupid toggle lever.

Hello je11 --- in order to allow your BE1432 to use bluetooth, you must purchase the following items:

- MX3192. This device translates the original Becker(Sony) CD changer control-signal format to ALPINE CD changer control-signal format for the BE1432
- Yatour Alpine M-BUS Emulator. This is a device that emulates an Alpine CD changer and allows for Bluetooth/SDCard/Auxin/etc to be used in place of an Alpine CD Changer.

....oh damn !!!! I am wrong ! I have Becker Mexico 2000 RDS / BE 1460 / 1560 in my car... dont know why I mistake it. damn

I got this radio from a W140 S-Class and put it in my .036.

So ..... questions again - its tough possible to get it with bluetooth ?

I'm not familiar with those... can you post a photo of the connections on the back side? If they use the same remote tuner in the trunk, with DIN connection cable, like the 1432... then all the 1432 information still applies.

They're difficult to find any more. I looked for one for my 93 400E and the only one I found didn't work and had to be returned.

And don't worry - your English is far better than my German!

MX3192s show up from time to time on eBay. I have a google search bot that automatically notifies me when one pops up for sale. I probably get 3-4 valid notifications per year.
I would categorize this as about on-par with finding a "500E" badge for sale. It is easier to find a MX3192 for sale than it is to find a new battery-box-sheetmetal for the w124.036 for sale.
These following part numbers are also synonymous with the MX3192:

I did the same and found a couple over about three month period. One was stupid expensive and the other was questionable for about $150. I rolled the dice on the $150 one and of course it didn't work. :runexe:

I talked to Ed at Becker about them and he said they didn't even repair them any more, so that wasn't an option. I did pop the cover on the one I got and the complexity of the circuitry was amazing.

OMG, I don't doubt that anecdote about the circuitry!! :-)

I actually have a spare one with spare cables. However it is not for sale --- I am secretly hoping that lowman will one day wake up and decide that he desperately needs one, at which point I will gently remind him that I have a spare one. :-) :-) :shocking: :stickpoke:

An MX3192 just popped up on ebay - $175. Seems to include not only the MX3192 but also the needed cables and an Alpine CD changer if you so wish to connect the CD changer. I'm not affiliated with the sale, but it this is all in working condition, it is a *great* deal.
