Numbers?

I recently removed my rear bumper to make a minor repair to it. I noticed a four digit number written on what seems to be tape on the body underneath the bumper. Does this signify anything?

I found the same thing on one of my cars, in the same location as yours. I think it's a factory identification of some sort, but I have no idea what it means. Amazing that the tape is still present after 25+ years!

I found the same thing on my car a while ago and with that a factory photo showing that the tape was used in production
