Re: alas! some pictures

I agree! That interior looks like cream although the model year would dictate parchment. I don't recall seeing any silver cars with either color. A great combination and some great pictures! Thanks for sharing them.

Re: alas! some pictures

BTW, I love the wood/leather steering wheel. Was that standard in the U.K., or did you add it?

Hello.

Your steering wheel is a Victor steering wheel; http://www.victor-deutschland.de/shop/index.php

I had the same in my SuperMerc, but sold it since I'am converting to Birds Eye Maple and wanted to match the wood inserts on it. I hope you don't mind I'm adding a couple of photos in your thread, just for info.

Cheers

Thanks for the Info, Arnt. I't's a lovely steering and feel. Everyone that sees it love it! Can't Imagine what my friend, the PO, paid for it though.

Cheers!

Nice, indeed. I love this facelift, even more in silver, so it seems.

Strangely I only now noticed you have the steering wheel on the proper side, how come?

JB, JB, part of the novelty of owning an E500E is driving one in 'right hand drive countries' as they only made them 'Left hand drives!' (including all of the 29 officially imported to UK) . Much like the BMW E30 M3 only left hookers too. Country like Japan this is a big thing for them and it what makes them more desirable, albeit a PITA sometimes when u can't see behind a truck if you need to overtake.

:lolol: should have used your line Gerry,,,"Perhaps that Dutch education system is not providing enough training in logic and reason ... :scratchchin:".

I call it "Jelmerian logic"
That's the second time you use that - gonna change my title accordingly.

Bing: Those pictures come out of your Yahoo! inbox, it seems. We can't access them. Perhaps you can save them and upload them to this site?

Sorry, I'm bit of a lame duck when it comes to computers - try again!

These photos were taken from my phone back in december 2010 when I collected her from Zurich.
Note the 200D badge which my friend fooled so many on the autobahn.

Yes as Gerry mentioned, see the thread for guidelines. I believe they are known as S600 140 grills which was fitted by the PO. I don't think it's a straight fit but with some cutting and adjustments it's sufficient, and I only see them on facelifted models. Which reminds me mine is not sitting right - better post it on that thread.

Bing, if you have the time, can I request a proper picture from the front of the car, properly showing the grille? It looks awesome, indeed.

Ok Guys - as mentioned earlier, reluctantly, I have decided to sell the car. Not an easy decision after all the praises and graces I've given this car and other fellow owners alike. Without a garage facility to work in, for all that necessary tinkering and protection for the winter months, I feel it deserves to be passed on to another Enthusiast (If at all possible) than let it rot on the street.

The car was first registered February 1994 in Geneva, Switzerland and I am the 3rd owner. It was supplied by MB Garage de Nyon A&S Chevalley SA to its first owner and was serviced and maintained by them till 2004.

April 2004 at 75kkm it was sold by the same dealer to a good friend of mine who resides in Zurich. He paid a squint of SFR25,900 back then! During his ownership it was maintained by a MB specialist 'Guido Thaler AG' in Wintherthur. File of invoices I have ( all in german of course) I can easily scan of course if one would like to see. Just as an example, and in brief, one significant invoice work carried out at 129kkm shows:,

poltergeräusch hinten beheben
stossdampfer ausgeschlagen, ersetzen

Stossdampfer hinten
druckkugel
Stossdampfermontagesatz

Rechnung sfr2'970.95

Last serviced by this Indie was at 162kkm Nov 2009, bill SFR1834.70

February 2010 I acquired the car but basically stayed in storage in Zurich till December 2010 when I drove it back to UK

In my ownership the following work has been carried out:

December 2010
At 167kkm Oil/filter change
Lubricate front dampers
Replace power steering hose from reservoir to pump
Lights converted to left hand traffic
Install side repeaters
Replaced cracked side blinker lamp
MOT check and register for UK use.

March/April 2011 169kkm
Top Engine Harness
Caps/seals/rotors
Transmission oil cooler hoses
Engine oil cooler hose
Washer reservoir, grommets and pumps
Refrigerant sensor, Discharge/recharge a/c

Add-ons and non essentials:
Set of black floor mats
Controller for head unit (porsche CDR22) so it can viewed at any angle, from Becker auto sound NJ

December 2011, Routine service 175kkm
Engine oil flushed , change filter, renew oil Mobil 1 5w40
air filter
cabin filter
fuel filter
Flush coolant twice (drain radiator and both sides of crank case), renew thermostat, top hose, fill with MB coolant mix distilled water
Replace steering damper
Replace idler arm
Replace ambient temp (installed used one)
MOT Uk inspection

February 2012, 176kkm
Reseal cam magnet and front cover passenger side with MB sealant
cam stretch bolt and seal ring passenger side
renew valve cover gaskets
New oil level sender unit and pressure switch
sump gasket
oil filter housing gasket
oil filter and seal
new poly belt
New tensioner/adjuster
New alternator bearings
Renew oil mobil 1 5w 40
New expansion coolant tank
New anti roll bar bushes
Replaced EZL (second hand)
Install 2phast special auto dimming mirror

While underneath bottom harness was checked and surprisingly still intact

The car is pretty much all original apart from FGS, Cool harness and a Porsche CDR22 head unit/ipod connect with Blaupunkt Thb 200A subwoofer. 2 sets of wheels, stock 16" eight holes on winters and Polished Evo II on Bridgestone Potenzas (50% tread). Also, a original 3rd break light is fitted which is rare on Euro models. Current mileage is 175,200km(109500miles). I have all three original infrared remote keys, owners manual, documents and 2 X MB floor mats.

Mechanically, no running issues. A typical weep from p/s pump is slightly present but not enough for me to ever have to top up the fluid. Steering box is bone dry which was last checked when idler arm bushes were replaced. Brake pads are at 50%, rotors no deep lip and vibration. ATF is due a change at 180kkm, which I'm happy to have done for the right buyer.

Bodywork and interior: Now I know what you're thinking, "being a swiss car it's gotta have rust!". But , I myself, is very surprised that it has zero rust! Some fair wear & tear such as typical stonechips on the hood and bumper scuffs. Inside is 9 out 10, rear seats are hardly used, zero wear on passenger front seat, driver seat typical slight wear on bolster but not enough to warrant a refurb yet IMO. Hedliner totally unmarked and carpets regularly shampooed. PITA this beige interior but it keeps me on top of things as it shows when dirty and I'm very much a stickler when it comes to the interior. Yes, I'm the type who carry a small paint brush to rid off that dust in nooks and cranies.
Photos above in previous post is pretty much still what it is.

Not really sure what to ask for and I hate to put a price on her, so any suggestion is welcome or an offer for that matter. It's not on the market yet but I thought i'd give members first refusal, or at best what you think is a fair price??

I hope this brief history demonstrates how I did my best to look after such a legendary machine. Please feel free to ask any questions and give advise.

Many thanks, guys!
Bing:cheers:

P.S Gerry, not sure if this post should be in the For Sale thread but feel free to transfer.

What? There's not an affordable storage unit to be found in England?

It's a petrol thing, ain't it? You really want that new Fiat 500 Abarth in 040 black, don't you? :topsy_turvy:

I really hope you won't regret this sale later on - they are getting more rare each day.

That said, I hope you'll find a good house for her. I'm going to tell my colleague he needs to buy this car, let's see what happens ;) You'll need to give a bit of a price indication though ...

Ohh damn, if i would have the money now, i would buy it immediately!
Love that Brilliantsilber-Metallic and the tan leather. Tan leather is extremely extremely rare in Europe among the W124s (the 500Es are no exception) you only see black and gray 99,99% of the time.
Your car looks so perfectly well maintained and well-kept.

Thanks christian! Yes, I do forget that this color combo is very rare indeed!

Hi bing

Your beauty, when she was in Zurich, was resting in corner of similar concrete garage that mine is sitting now :) What a coincidence.

Oh btw, My mechanic, Marcin and his men who all take a personal interest on my car are Polish true and true. Real crackers, quick and hard working. I love spending the day with them - just like a club! :bbq:
