Hi Guys!.
Im Martin from Norway.
I live in Bodø (Bodoe/Bodo) Its north of the polar circle, it is the second largest town i Norway above the circle with aprox 50k inhabitants. And I am 24 and this is my second car. My first is a E260 1992 and i still have that. And my father has a 300tdt 4-matic. So i do know my way around the w124 chassis. So thats enough about me.

Its time I start an owners thread about my E420 sportline.
I bought the car the 19. September 2012. So it not new to me at this moment in time;)

First of:
Its a 1994 model with just over 180000 km on the odometer. Just around 11200mils. And sadly it shows on the car.

873 - Seat heater for Left and Right front seats
877 - Reading lamp in the rear
953 - Sportline package

So when i got the car it had just been imported to Norway. It came from Denmark and previously from Germany. And in Denmark the use salts on the roads in the winter which equals rust. Have not done anything about it yet. But will this winter just soda-blast it and garage paint it.. And next year do a complete rust panel removal and add new genuine panels.
Because this winter I have a Wavetrac LSD that will be installed. Will do a complete removal where everything what can be sandblasted and powder coated will get that treatment. And of course new shocks, springs, bushings front and rear. But this i will come back to as Im working on the car.

What i have done/used money on:
- Lower wiring harness new (Genuine MB)
- Motor mounts and tranny new (Genuine MB)
- Front LCA's (Genuine MB)
- Changed bearings on AC and AIR pump
- Changed connecting hose on the powersteering fluid tank.
- Steering damper (Genuine MB)
- Center support bearing with rubber. (Genuine MB)
- New blinkers front and sides (Genuine MB)
- Cabin Filters. (The olds was black. No joke, deep black)
- Mud flaps (front and rear. But have just the rear on right now)
- A complete custom sound system. (because i am stupid and don't understand whats the smartest thing to use money on)
- 18" Lorinser RS1
- New Steering wheel
- 1bump rubber on all springs.

As it sits right now (I don't have one the small extra long beam headlights)

Hi Martin, welcome to the MB nuts forum. You live right on the Norwegian sea, a few years ago I visited a friend's family in Kristiansund, just on the same coast. Fantastic sights.

Cheers,

Re: OWNER- Modzona E420 Sportline

Since i have a complete custom stereo here is the specs:

Receiver: Kenwood KDC-BT61U
Front: Focal PS165F3
Rear: Focal PC130
Subs: 2x 10" Ground Zero GZRW 25SPL
Amp: Ground Zero Hydrogen GZHA 5125XII
Battery: Exide AGM EK900 90Ah

Well since in my car had some idiot had installed jehnert doorsides. I had to do something.
I can not stress how much is setup sucks. Sorry guys who think this is an upgrade. Its not. Yes it makes more sound than stock. Not much better. In my E260 i have some coax 5.1/4" front and 4" rear from Rockford Fosgate on a 4x channel cheep amp. Well i does not massage my bottom as good, but the sound quality is just ten times better.
So since my beater car had better sound than my summer car. And i had some money burning in my bank. Well this is how it ended:

Thanks Karl!

Well it has rust in almost every wheel arch:?
In the winter its dark here 24/7.. And they are the biggest longbeam headlamps from hella that dont need a back support to stop them shaking too much.

You could upgrade to E500 headlamps, but then you would lose the foglights. And it would cost a bundle to do the headlight swap!

Its not an e500, so e500 headlamps are no no in my world. And the extra lights are off now just an old pic from last summer. They will only come on for long trips to our cabin or for ice lake driving i the winter. Personal note still need to get some rally ice tires.
At summer time we have sun light 24/7 so for a summer car i have no need for them.

Not much going on with the E420 its been sitting for a wile. It runs a bit ruff, i think it just need new rotors and caps. Fingers crossed.

But have done a ton of work on my dads 300tdt 4-matic 93.

  • New boots on both front axles, (MB)
  • Engine mounts and trans mount. (MB
  • Lower part of the belly pan. Oil plug just went round and round. (used)
  • AC condenser, some black plastic on the sides had rubbed hole in the old. (MB)
  • New viscous fan clutch, (MB)
  • Front rotors and pads. (Zimmermann)
  • + some small parts.

Have a buddy's E220 95 in the garage right now. Was suppose too just change fluids and filters and plugs. Butt well..
Have discovered 16 rust holes in it. It had water up to the rubber mats. :? After some looking i got a smoke machine.
Well the jack points are to blame. 3 out of the 4 gone. And it had well around 4kg of filler in the front wheel archers in the engine bay. And had the correct match too the paint. Some people just don't need to know how their hands work.

19.jpg

So because all the rust. I have been out and bought a new welder. After some research i bought a Lincoln Electric Speedtrac 200c. It will MIG/MAG - MMA and TIG weld :jono:
This thing is going to bee so much better than my old china MIG too like 200$

Well thats explains a lot.
Looks like rotors/caps will have to be changed and the cam seals. Other side has been changed to bosch cap by the PO but i will change both to Bremi. And keep the 2year old bocsh cap in reserve.

The caps don't look bad, you can probably clean them up and re-use after fixing the oil leak. Scrape the brass contacts clean & wipe all the residue off.

:shocking:

Yep, did clean them yesterday when i had it of. Forgot to take pics of the rotor, that was really bad. Only contact point left on it was about 2-3mm. Just going to do them all so i have control on the age and wear on them.
But since i was doing the ASR delete setup i had all of the computers out after this so i didn't have a chance to test if to clean them had helped. Rain surprised me so i just had to throw the CAN case together. Have too look more in to it when the weather gets better.

I have not been to good at updating stuff in this thread. I would like to better at it. So im doing a bit of a round up. And i will start to write more about my other cars as they see more use than the E420 as it is just a summer car.

I have some Ice lake driving vids that i have posted in another thread. But i will post them here as well. The last video a local part of NRK (Norwegian Broadcasting corp) wants to use it in a news story of some sort. Dont know more right now as it has not been air'd yet. But fun anyway :D

Me, my brother and two friends was in Sweden skiing some weeks ago. The car was packed to the brim. And the last night before we was to drive home it was -25-30*c outside and i got an ice prop in the heating system so no heat. Luckily the ice/slush prop melted after around 20-30min of driving. I put the heat on max and the fan on low and air on recycle so that the heat the four of us made might help melting the ice in the radiator in the dash.

Came over this C-class.
