Now there's a place I need to visit in a while :) Been to the Benz museum in Stuttgart, this should be next!

It strikes me as odd that they picked a '94 model, somehow. The previous models had a (imho) more impressive and more exclusive look. Oh well, great it's there, anyway!

Yep ... I was there just a few short weeks ago ....

Cheers,
Gerry

Eh? What's that on the door handle in IMG_9740.JPG? Is that a standard option?

Infrared locking. Available from model year 1994 onward, but not on US cars and only as an option in Euro models. It's pretty rare...... though common in W210 E-class cars even here in the States.

Cheers,
Gerry

I'd need to look into that. After my alarm got yanked out I'm stuck with the key, that somehow feels too old fashioned...

The information screen surprises me, by the way. Model year 1990? No, 1994. Displacement 5000ccm? No, 4973ccm. Top speed 250km/h? Nope, 260km/h (although... I've yet to see 235+ ;( )

Well, I think the sign was pertaining to the beginning of the model run, and they weren't making it consistent with the model actually displayed. I saw this in other cars displayed -- they talked about the first year the car went into production, even if it was produced for numerous years.

This problem with Scott's 500Ecstasy problem was because he was using two domains (500ecstasy.com and 500e.com) and the domains weren't totally synchronized in the vBulletin software from a login tracking perspective. It was a configuration issue as the capability definitely exists within vBulletin to use multiple domains. The solution with Scott's issue was just to access the site using the original domain, www.500ecstasy.com and ignore the 500E.com domain.

We don't have that problem with this site now because I have a straight "URL redirect" from the www.500Eboard.com/forums URL to this one. Eventually I will move that domain over to this hosted and keep the redirect.

Cheers,
Gerry

I've been to the Porsche Museum three times since I took those photos back in 2011, and unfortunately have not seen the E500 Limited (or any other .036) back out on display. So I was happy to catch these photos when the Museum was new.

Hi,
I have the infra red locking on my car and I think it was standart on the 1994 models, at least in France.
To open or close the car, you just have to aim at the door handle or at the bottom of the boot/trunk. Then, you have a small red light (closed) or a green light (opened) flashing alternately. If the system doesn't work properly, you can open the car by the passenger side which still has a lock. But then, you activate the alarm and you can't start the car because the alarm system and the immobilizer are connected to the infra red system...

How come museum car has 74 000 km on it ? Do they drive it around museum ? LOL

Also whats wrong with it ? Headlight panel misalighned and bumper does not look to be straight on the driver side look #1 and compare to #2.

Headlight wiper misalighned for some reason too....

I am sure they didn't pull a car from the assembly line and purchased this one 2nd hand after the fact.

This car on display had significant external wear and evidence of use, and I inspected the odometer. It was NOT a low-kms example.

If I remember correctly, and it's been a few years now, it had ~75,000 km on the clock

Cheers,
Gerry

Yup you are right guys.
Still, I did not get why they did not get a new car or low miles example ?
At least the one without obvious external wears ? Strange ...

Till this minute I thought E500 LTD in Porsche museum is new and super valuable cuz it is new

Patina is considered valuable by collectors and apparently museums (although I personally disagree). I'm half surprised they didn't get one that was seriously beat up with 400kkm.

I agree, if they had asked Mercedes, I am sure MB would of given one to them.

IIRC, Porsche used their W134036 as a factory VIP taxi, so maybe this is the same one, in which case the mileage is pretty impressive!
